Acne is a problem which took me ages to finally control it. Even 3 years ago I still had to listen how Accutane and birth control can magically remove acne from my face (as well as it has lots of side effects but who cares). I gave up on dermatologists because I felt like they do at their work what I do at mine - just copy and paste the same formula in each correspondence with the patient/client. A month ago I got a message from Troiareuke - a South Korean aesthetic skincare brand. That's why I met the most important product in my skincare routine - Troiareuke Acsen Selemix Serum.

So a month ago I just got a package from Troiareuke but the whole process wasn't as easy as it looks. Usually, if I agree to collaborate with a brand all I have to do is to write what's my skin type and maybe what's my skin concerns and that's all. My experience with Troiareuke was very unique - it's an aesthetic skincare brand that started their activity in 2010 from selling their products in spas and professional clinics. I had to fill a survey with lots of questions and I had to send photos of my skin. After that survey, I've decided to trust this brand in 100% - even if I've heard and tried this brand before. The product recommended for me is Troiareuke Acsen Selemix Serum - the name of this product is not random, word Acsen stand for Acne and Sensitive. This serum can do both - help with acne, pores and inflammation but it also cares about lipid barrier - short note about lipid barrier: usually acne products which you can get at drugstores or even prescription drugs can drain all the water from your skin and destroy lipid barrier, I was never taught how important lipid barrier is and I had to figure it out on my own, that's why I focus a lot about this quite a huge detail. Before I tell you how my skincare routine and my journey with Troiareuke went, let's focus a bit on the ingredients.

Water - a source of minerals and moisture. It’s the most basic element of the product. Dipropylene Glycol - emollient and humectant. Good moisturiser. Butylene Glycol - a humectant and preservative, it helps other ingredients to get beneath the skin but it’s also a moisturizer. It can be comedogenic. Glycerin - a humectant and a delicate preservative, but also a very powerful moisturizer. It helps other substances to get beneath the skin but it also regenerates the skin. Some people say it might be comedogenic, but in the comedogenic rating, this ingredient is placed very low. Ethoxydiglycol - a humectant that helps with transportation of other ingredients. It’s not safe to use during the pregnancy. Betaine - a humectant with anti-static properties. It’s a strong moisturiser that makes skin and hair soft, it also makes wrinkles more smooth. Silica - a natural ingredient that absorbs sebum that’s why it’s used in makeup and skincare products. It’s also used as an extender but it has a positive meaning to hair and nails too - it makes them stronger. Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract - a humectant that works for all skin types. It’s a good moisturiser because aloe contains almost 99% of water. It can help with rash, sunburns, acne or with wounds. It balances sebum production but it also helps with hair and dandruff. Kids and women during the pregnancy should be careful with this ingredient - use small amounts. If you’ve got salicylate sensitivity/allergy then you have to be careful with it. Dimethicone/ Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer - a stabiliser, it might be comedogenic. Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Water - an antioxidant with antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It’s a soothing ingredient that helps with sebum production, acne and inflammation. Sodium Acrylate/ Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer - a stabiliser and anti-caking ingredient. Octyldodeceth-16 - an emulsifier. PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil - an emulsifier, surfactant and stabiliser. Not safe to use during the pregnancy, it’s also not the safest ingredient for the health in general. Mineral Oil - also known as Paraffinum Liquidum, an emollient and solvent. It can be comedogenic and depends on use this product might very good or not the best choice for the skin. Magnolia Kobus Bark Extract - also known as Kobushi Magnolia. Magnolia was used in traditional medicines as a treatment for allergy and anxiety. Now it is used as an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sprout Extract - an emollient and antioxidant. A source of many vitamins such as Vitamin E, it moderates sebum production but it also helps with irritation and slows down the ageing process. It’s a good moisturiser. 1,2-Hexanediol - a preservative and humectant with antibacterial properties. Some people say that it might be irritating. Caprylyl Glycol - an oily emollient that penetrates the skin very well, it can transport other substances beneath the skin surface.

Carbomer - a thickener and stabiliser. It might be comedogenic. It can be irritating for your skin and eyes. Sophora Angustifolia Root Extract - an antibacterial ingredient. It helps with eczema. Citrus Junos Fruit Extract - also known as Yuzu and Yuja. It’s an antioxidant and a source of Vitamin C. It is used in cosmetics not only for its brightening and anti-inflammatory properties but also because of its scent. Eucalyptus Globulus Leaf Extract - also known as Tasmanian Blue Gum Leaf Extract, an antioxidant with antibacterial, antiseptic and anti-fungal properties. This extract helps with acne, dandruff or even inflammation. It can be used as a scent ingredient. Citrus Paradisi Fruit Extract - an antioxidant and mild moisturiser. Good for acne-prone skin - it helps with acne. Eugenia Caryophyllus (Clove) Flower Extract - an antioxidant with strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Good for acne and wrinkles but it’s not safe to use during the pregnancy and sometimes it might cause allergic reactions. Tromethamine - pH balancer and thickener. Trideceth-6 - also known as PEG-6 Tridecyl Ether, also known as Trideceth-6, an emulsifier and stabiliser. It’s not the safest ingredient. Anthemis Nobilis (Chamomile) Flower Extract - an antioxidant with antiseptic properties. It’s very effective on sensitive skin, it can speed up the healing process but it has also a positive meaning for acne-prone skin. Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil - a fragrance ingredient and an antioxidant. It makes skin brighter, it shouldn’t be used during the pregnancy. Salicylic Acid - a substance used as an acne treatment, an exfoliator that can reach beneath the skin surface.It helps with irritation and clogged pores. It shouldn’t be used during the pregnancy and if you’ve got salicylate sensitivity/allergy. Propylene Glycol - a humectant and solvent. C12-14 pareth-12 - a surfactant. Xanthan Gum - also known as E415, a safe stabiliser and thickener. Citrus Grandis Peel Extract - an antioxidant with antibacterial and antiseptic properties. It helps with wrinkles, blackheads and acne. Sciadopitys Verticillata Root Extract - antistatic ingredient. Lemon Peel Oil - a fragrance ingredient and an antioxidant with antibacterial properties. It makes skin brighter, but it can also help a little bit with wrinkles. It shouldn’t be used during the pregnancy. Portulaca Oleracea Extract - also known as Purslane and Ma Chi Xian. A humectant and source of vitamins and minerals such as vitamin E and vitamin A. It’s a good moisturiser. Beta-Glucan - an antioxidant with soothing properties. It’s very effective for sensitive skin and redness. Canavalia Gladiata Fruit Extract - also known as sword bean. Lavandula Angustifolia Oil - it’s a fragrance ingredient with antiseptic properties. Some people might have allergic reactions to this ingredient. Sodium Hyaluronate - a humectant, an antioxidant and strong moisturiser that increases lipid barrier and skin elasticity. It can help with wrinkles and pigmentation. It’s a healing ingredient so it can help with post-acne scars, inflammation and speed up the healing process. Ocimum Basilicum Oil - an oil with antibacterial and antiseptic properties. Rosmarinus Officinalis Leaf Oil - an antioxidant and natural ingredient. It has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties. Salvia Sclarea Oil - an oil with antibacterial and anti-fungal properties. It helps with acne and oily skin.

Acsen Selemix Serum is based on an ingredient called Selemix-An which is a combination of Magnolia Kobus Bark Extract - and antibacterial and anti-inflammatory ingredient and Glycine Soja (Soybean) Sprout Extract - a moisturizer. I didn't notice it when I looked at the ingredients for the first time but then I did a short research and it was time to try the product. The texture of the product is not liquidy - it's a bit thicker and sticky but it's easy to spread the serum all over the skin. I've decided to use it after a toner but I also made quite a big change in my skin care. For this month, I didn't change anything in skin cleansing but what I did was removing every other step after using the toner and put instead Troiareuke's products - so for about a month I was using Selemix Serum with A.G.T. Hydro Essence and Cell Energy Cream (both AGT and Cell Cream I was testing on samples and two small packages lasted about 3-3,5 weeks, I do not count sheet masks and face masks in this routine). I wasn't expecting a miracle, I just wanted to see if it can really help with a sensitive skin because I get allergy very often. I could feel decreased sebum production after just 3 days - my skin wasn't as oily and one of the most awesome things I could do in the morning was cleansing my face with pure water - thing that previously was like an impossible quest for me, you might ask me now if I'm ok but I do not try to overcleanse my skin. My skin is really cleaner - I can see fewer acne spots or inflammation - literally, right now my legs and hands are more problematic than my skin but there's one thing that this serum couldn't help me in 100% - hormonal acne. Always when I'm about this time of the month I got more and more acne and it seems like nothing can stop it - even if I got 1-2 cysts during the period now and I know that Selemix-an works on hormones because of the documentation related to this ingredient I feel like I was expecting more if it comes to acne and cysts. What this serum really helped me with are pores, sebum production and sensitivity. Since the last month, I had only one moment when I felt some problems with my skin - it was during the test of a sheet mask with citric acid on a fresh micro-wound, besides that - I had no allergic reactions, I didn't feel any itching. It seems like a dream. I know that this information is very important for some of you - yes, this serum works with foundation/bb cream.

I would love to say that I would consider getting this serum after using this bottle but I've got a small problem with it - the price. If you eat or drink something - then try not to do that while reading the price, if you stand then maybe just sit down. For some of you this price will be a joke, but if you're a student or an intern or you just got as bad situation at work as me then you'll be shocked. This serum costs... $156 for 100ml - I'm not really shocked about the price, it's an individual thing but what I'm shocked about is the difference in prices from the same series - the toner and cleanser from Acsen series cost about $38-50. In this case, we pay for an innovative and unique ingredient.

It's been a month since I've started to use serum, I will recommend this brand because I've tried it before and my feelings about this their products and how they care for the customers are very positive - they just know what they do and even with their products no matter how much the product costs they do a good job. If it comes to serum - if you can afford then go for it, if not - then I would recommend you Troiareuke Cushions and check other products from this brand.
