Ideal foundation for the summer? Lily Lolo Mineral Foundation SPF 15 - China Doll

Friday 10 August 2018

Lately, a heatwave in Europe made me realise one thing - there's almost no product that can survive such high temperature but I guess I found one that can stand such high temperatures - it's a Lily Lolo Mineral Foundation SPF 15 - China Doll.

I made a post about Lily Lolo's products before, I even made a more descriptive post about Lily Lolo Mineral Concealer (Barely Beige). If you haven't seen them you might check them here.

What's inside the product?

Mica, Zinc Oxide [+/- CI 77891 (Titanium  Dioxide), CI 77492 (Iron Oxide), CI 77491 (Iron Oxide), CI 77499 (Iron Oxide)]

The ingredients are very simple. Mica is a mineral pigment that reflects light so this ingredient won't only give you a pigment that matches with the complexion but it also should make your pores less visible while wearing a makeup and it shouldn't make wrinkles more visible. Zinc Oxide is a natural oil absorber and a pigment. Besides these two ingredients, we can find here different natural pigments based on Titanium Dioxide and Iron Oxide. All of them are safe for the skin.

Application is easy

The one good thing about this product is an application. I use Lily Lolo Super Kabuki Face Brush to apply it onto my face. All you need to do is to moisturize your skin well before and then take a small amount of the foundation with a brush. With a circular motion apply it onto your face starting with the nose area. You can build the coverage but for me usually, a thin layer is enough because I do not expect this foundation to cover my pigmentation in 100%.

It stays on the skin for a longer time

Zinc Oxide is a natural absorber and the good thing about it is that during the summer - it works better than a liquid foundation. I feel like my makeup doesn't smudge as much when I use minerals as a base makeup just like it smudges on a liquid makeup. So it's a win-win situation for the summer for all skin types but no matter what remember about moisturizing the skin before using mineral foundation since it might dry your skin if your skin is naturally dry.

The product looks natural on the skin

Mineral foundation has a semi-coverage, I wouldn't call it full but even if it covers the imperfection on a high level, it doesn't make your makeup look like a fake mask on your face - it looks very delicate and natural. It helps in making the natural shape of the face stand out, every detail of the face stays the same so the natural attributes of your face won't be covered. I would say it's a product ideal for teenagers with acne-prone skin - it looks natural, it doesn't have bad substances in it and it doesn't make your acne worse, even the other way it can help you with acne.

It doesn't clog your pores

What I started to notice is that if I wear mineral foundation and then after a couple days I go back to a liquid foundation then my skin automatically clog. The good thing about the mineral products is that it prevents the skin from clogging and that's very beneficial for acne-prone skin.

Even if it contains natural sunscreens you need to use additional sunscreen

Zinc Oxide and Titanium Oxide are natural sunscreens but minerals aren't enough to give you the sun protection. I still use the sunscreen (mineral one) under the makeup because it makes the foundation sticks better to my face and I also like to re-apply the sunscreen because sunscreen doesn't last forever and after 2-3 hours it doesn't give us the protection.

It works well with many different products including mineral sunscreens and vitamin C serums

Makeup products love to cake on different base products. Some products just don't go together. For example, many liquid products don't go with vitamin C serums or mineral sunscreens (because they leave white cast). I was scared of that but actually, the mineral foundation worked with both of these products that normally didn't work with liquid foundation or bb cushion.

To sum up, I think that mineral sunscreen during the summer is good because it's lighter but it can survive higher temperatures than products with different ingredients including chemical preservatives and silicones. You can purchase this product from Costasy website or local Lily Lolo seller.

Do you use mineral foundations? How do you deal with makeup during the heatwave?
