Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

Usually, you start with cleansing oil and then follow it with a water-based cleanser. I'm different, and just right after a gel cleanser review, I'm sharing a review of the product which I've been avoiding for ages now - Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. Is it as scary as I thought?

About Klairs

Klairs is a K-beauty brand, and one of the first South Korean brands I've ever tried. The motto of the company is 'simple but enough'. Klairs is a part of Wishcompany, and its origins take us back to 2012 when Klairs officially became a part of Wishcompany. The name meaning is a bit different from other brands. According to Klairs, the name Dear, Klairs comes from fictional character Klair, a girl with sensitive skin, the name is like a letter to her. Even if the full name of a brand is Dear, Klairs we stick to use Klairs and honestly, I barely ever see anyone using the full name of a company. Klairs notice how changing, and challenging cosmetic market can be that's why they decided to focus on quality over quantity. 'Simple but enough' means that brand won't create many products, instead they focus on simple solutions. The brand doesn't only listen to customers, and their ideas, but Klairs focus on the environment is a part of the brand's mission. All skin types can use Klairs products. The brand is cruelty-free, and vegetarian-friendly, the majority of products are vegan-friendly. You won't find here parabens, artificial colourants and scents. I don't think parabens are evil, but some people prefer to avoid them. Klairs is a successful brand in the world's market, that's why you shouldn't be surprised to find it all around the world. In Poland, Klairs products are available on Asiacare.eu

Why do I use cleansing oil?

When I started to use cleansing oils it was hard to find any product like that in Europe. Regular oils? Yes, but cleansing? No way! I guess the first European cleansing oil was Vichy, then Sephora and then The Body Shop. Nowadays, brands are coming out with cleansing oils, but Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil was the first K-beauty cleansing oil available in my country - online and physical stores. The cleansing oil is an emulsifying oil - it doesn't leave the oily residue on your skin and it removes makeup and sunscreen well. Emulsifying oil turns from oil into water, but still, we use gentle cleansing foams or gels to remove the rest of the oil. Some people think this method is sketchy because using oil on oily skin sounds like something is wrong. You don't have to worry, cleansing oil won't make your skin more oily (at least not emulsifying one), it's even better - it can help manage your skin.

Double cleansing vs single cleansing

Is double cleansing better than single cleansing? It depends. I would advise using double cleansing at evening routine - to remove makeup and sunscreen. Single cleansing - for example only micellar water or cleansing foam - is better for the morning routine.

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil - Packaging

Klairs bottle is slim and has a nice pump - it's easy to push. It also has this simple, but a useful system to block the pump - if you travel a lot, you'll love it! The design fits the scrub Klairs Black Sugar Facial Polish (the review is on Kherblog). The only bad thing - the oil is in a plastic foil and then a paper box. I know safety first, but in 2020 there are different methods.

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil - Texture & Scent

The texture is oily and liquidy, but once you add a tiny bit of water it starts to change. I like to do facial massage on this oil and then use water to clean my skin with it. The scent reminds me of lemon or vervain mixed with some beans. It's a refreshing scent, but I believe that some people might find it too heavy. I don't mind it.

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil - Ingredients

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Isononyl Isononanoate, PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate, Isopropyl Myristate, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil, Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil, Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil, Tocopheryl Acetate, PEG-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate, Polysorbate 20, Fragrance, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil, Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil - Ingredients

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is an emollient. It's a combination of coconut oil and glycerin which makes mild, gentle and delicate emollient. It thickens the formula, but it also makes skin feel smooth in touch. Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is an oily emollient ester. It's a synthetic substance used in skincare and haircare products to protect both hair and skin from water loss and soften the skin. Isononyl Isononanoate is different from the previous ingredient. This synthetic emollient is dry and it helps with product application. You might be scared to see the word 'synthetic', but there's nothing to be scared of. While all substances are chemical (yep, the air you breath is chemical too since it's a mixture of different compounds like O2, CO2 and more), some are made by people and some come from nature (like rice). PEG-7 Glyceryl Cocoate - is a mild surfactant and Isopropyl Myristate is another emollient on a list. I don't like it, because usually, Isopropyl Myristate clogs my pores, but clogging is an individual thing. The only positive about this situation is that you'll wash your face with foam cleanser anyway.

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

Since it's an oil cleanser, oils are very important. We can find a huge amount of it. Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil is an emollient and not an oil. Although it looks like one, it's actually a waxy ester. Some people believe that Jojoba Seed Oil is ideal for acne-prone skin because it's very similar to sebum. I can't agree or disagree on this topic, but my skin does like this oil. Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil is an emollient derived from soybeans. This oil contains more linoleic acid over oleic acid and that's a great thing because oily skin loves linoleic acid. It's a great moisturizer. Another emollient is quite new for me, but I feel like this ingredient became popular lately. Sesamum Indicum (Sesame) Seed Oil is a source of linoleic acid and vitamin E. Ribes Nigrum (Black Currant) Seed Oil is an oil and emollient that helps with acne-prone skin. Carapa Guaianensis Seed Oil is a strong moisturizer and a source of oleic acid. Lots of companies use this oil for anti-inflammatory properties. Vaccinium Macrocarpon (Cranberry) Seed Oil shouldn't surprise you - it's another emollient and it's a source of linoleic acid and vitamin E. It's great for skin - especially acne-prone skin, but your hair might love it as well.

We will stay with emollients for a bit. Peg-20 Glyceryl Triisostearate is an emulsifier, thanks to this ingredient the oil changes into the water (and Polysorbate 20 helps with this process). Next ingredient should be well known to you - Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter). It's a great moisturizer with rich texture. When we add Tocopheryl Acetate - an antioxidant with moisturizing properties, we will get a great mix. Last, but not least - Fragrance.

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

My experience with Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil

I was a bit negative towards Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil because I was scared that it might cause allergic reactions. I know Klairs well, I reviewed some products on this blog - Klairs Rich Soothing Cream is still one of my favourite moisturizers even if lately I cheated on it with Cosrx. The texture fits my skin type ideally, my skin is a combo, but lately, it got dehydrated. It's a typical problem of my skin in January, every year - the same story. It's a very delicate oil which should fit all skin types. I like to do facial massage while cleansing and then add a bit of water, but I have to admit one thing. Usually, I go with micellar cleanser to remove my eye makeup and then oil, this time I did the other way, sometimes I prefer to use cleansing oil alone to remove my makeup. How good in Klairs in removing my makeup? I do not use waterproof makeup, but I use an eye primer and fixer on my entire face. I never have any problems with removing my makeup fully while using Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. I don't know what about waterproof mascaras. It didn't sensitize my skin or irritate my eye. Usually, my biggest problem with cleansing oils (like it with Purito From Green Cleansing Oil which review you can read here) is the feeling of fog in the eyes - Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil didn't give me this feeling, it didn't hurt my eyes or make them more sensitive. I wear contact lenses every day so it was an important thing for me - to find an oil that matches my skin and lifestyle. The scent is not problematic and even if I forgot (ups, but yes sometimes I skip some steps in my skincare too, I'm not a saint - estheticians make mistakes too) to use a cleansing gel or foam and my face didn't feel greasy at all. The formula is gentle and even if it removes sebum well, it won't strip your skin completely. I would highly recommend it if you're not allergic to any of the ingredients found in this oil.

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil - price & where yo buy it?

Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil costs 91.60 PLN for 150 ml at Asiacare. It's not the cheapest price, but it's worth it. My experience with cleansing taught me that it's better to pay more for a good cleansing oil than end up with the fog in your eyes or an allergic reaction. Asiacare is a Polish K-beauty store where you can find products from brands such as Klairs, Missha, Neogen, Frudia, Blithe, A'Pieu, Kerasys and more.

Other products from Klairs you might like

I said that Klairs is one of my favourite brands, on Kherblog you'll see lots of reviews from Klairs:
Klairs Black Sugar Facial Polish - a sugar scrub from the same series as Cleansing Oil.
Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner - the most hydrating toner I've ever tried.
Klairs Soft Airy UV Essence SPF 50 PA ++++ - one of the best sunscreens available.
Klairs Midnight Blue Youth Activating Drop - great serum for skin with scars and if you want to focus on anti-aging.
Klairs Freshly Juiced Vitamin E Mask - especially good if you plan to use it with Vitamin C serum since Vit E boosts Vit C.
Klairs Rich Moist Soothing Cream - aka my top moisturizer which I'm sure I'll buy soon once again.

Overall, Klairs is a brand which I liked from the first try, so it doesn't surprise me that Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil did a great job on my skin! Let me know if you already tried this cleansing oil and what's your favourite Klairs product?
