Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon and Neogen Real Vita C Serum

After many years of fighting with acne, one of my biggest concerns is pigmentation. Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon and Neogen Real Vita C Serum are new Neogen products.  I used to be careful with Vitamin C before, but Neogen changed my skin and my routine. Pigmentation changes can take years to cure, but with Neogen this time got a bit shorter. Today I want to show you the results of using both treatments on my face and body to reduce post-acne pigmentation problems.

About the brand Neogen

Neogen is a South Korean skincare brand. I guess it's mostly known for NEOGEN Bio-Peel Gauze Peeling - a peeling pad method which I personally really enjoy. Neogen was one of the first K-beauty brands I've tried and it's one of the brands I still keep using. One of the first products I've tried was Vita Lightening Serum - the review of this serum is on the blog. Both Vita Lightening Serum and Real Vita C series are based on Vitamin C.

Why Vitamin C?

Vitamin C usually reminds us of Lemon and Vitamin C pills - at least in Poland if you're sick your mother is going to give you Vitamin C pills or onion syrup and believe me - if you have to choose between both Vitamin C pills are way better. Ascorbic Acid is one of the essential nutrients. It's a water-soluble vitamin, the deficiency of Ascorbic Acid can result in scurvy, is an overdose of this vitamin possible? Yes, but it's pretty hard since water-soluble vitamins are stored in the body for a shorter amount of time than fat-soluble vitamins. But one thing is clear - dietary supplements like Vitamin C powder SHOULDN'T BE USED ON YOUR SKIN! SO LEMON JUICE AND OTHER NON-COSMETIC SUBSTANCES! Vitamin C has a positive meaning for the skin - it boosts collagen synthesis, it helps with pigmentation, it brightens the skin and makes it look radiant. Real Vita C series is not a first Neogen's attempt to brightening, Neogen released Neogen Vita Lightening Serum couple years ago.

Packaging

Both products have silver packaging with orange details but once you open the paper boxes you'll see brown glass. I guess the brown glass was used on purpose - to protect products from sun rays since some forms of Vitamin C are not stable and the sunlight is bad for them.

Scent

I didn't check Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon scent since it's hard to figure out the scent of the powder but if you mix it with a moisturizer or an essence it does have a mild lemon scent. Neogen Real Vita Serum has a scent of some citrus mixed with oil, it might be a sea buckthorn scent and citrus scent mixed. This scent is not usual.

Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon

Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon is a new product, but before it became available, it was an exclusive release for Soko Glam. Neogen is not the only brand that came out with powder Vitamin C, but for me, it's the first product this type since I've never tried it before. I was always careful with Vitamin C. Lately, I think, I was wrong because Vitamin C in my skincare routine gives better effects than I could expect.

Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon Ingredients

Lactose, Ascorbic Acid(17%), Allantoin, Trehalose, Ribose, Betaine, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Water, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract(0.1ppm), 1,2-Hexanediol

Are you surprised to see Lactose in a product just like me? I wasn't prepared for that, but Lactose is a humectant and it has a positive meaning for the skin. Unfortunately, I do not know if lactose in skincare is as bad for lactose intolerant, as gluten in skincare for coeliac. The texture of this powder reminds me of milk powder and that's all because of the lactose. Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon contains Ascorbic Acid (17%) and it's nothing else than Vitamin C. It's an antioxidant that promotes collagen production and pigmentation fading. It has a positive meaning to our skin even if this form of Vitamin C is not so stable. Vitamin C in skincare comes in many different forms and Ascorbic Acid is one of them. Allantoin reminds me a lot of the time when I was a child since Allantoin treatments were popular back in the days. The popularity of it wasn't an accident, Allantoin is a soothing ingredient, ideal for sensitive skin. It boosts the wound healing process. Trehalose and Ribose are sugars, they work as humectants. Betaine is nothing else than another moisturizer. Next, to Allantoin, Panthenol is another ingredient I remember from my childhood. Sunburn? Panthenol spray was a solution. Panthenol is known as provitamin B5. It's a good moisturizer and soothing ingredient. It's common to use it on sunburns and wounds because it speeds up the healing process and it's good for sensitive skin. Another ingredient is quite different. Hydrolyzed Collagen is another moisturizer but collagen usually reminds us of what's inside the skin. And you're right collagen naturally occurs in your body, but if it comes to skincare there's a problem. Collagen can exist in different forms but all we need to know is that collagen molecule - no matter in which form is too big to get through layers of the skin. It makes a nice film on the surface of the skin, but if you want to boost collagen production - vitamin C is a way better choice. Last ingredients we're going to focus on is Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract (0.1ppm). It's an antioxidant and it might help with brightening in this formula.

Neogen Real Vita C Serum

Water, Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (22%), 1,2-Hexanediol, Niacinamide, Dipropylene Glycol, Butylene Glycol, Citric Acid, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Xanthan Gum, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Sodium Metabisulfite, Ethylhexylglicerin, Coptis Japonica Extract, Dextrin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil, Ascorbic Acid (0.1PPM), Tocopheryl Acetate, Panthenol, Hydrolyzed Collagen, Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract, Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Fruit Extract, Sodium Hyaluronate, Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, Disodium EDTA

The serum is based on a different form of Vitamin C than Powder - 22% Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate aka SAP.  Vitamin C likes to hide in different forms like MAP, SAP, etc. What's different between SAP and Ascorbic Acid? SAP is more stable than Ascorbic Acid. Mixed with Niacinamide - Vitamin B3, this duo can change your skin. Niacinamide has many benefits for the skin - from brightening the skin and lightening the pigmentation to helping with acne and inflammation but also making your skin barrier stronger and young - not exactly young but it can boost collagen which we need to have elastic skin. If your skin is sensitive just like mine, you might not like a mix of Vitamins C and B3. Citric Acid is an AHA but it's a mild exfoliant. Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil - some people love it because of an amazing scent but some people are allergic to it. Sodium Metabisulfite is a preservative which is also used for food. It's an allergen in food that's why I would be careful if you've got some food allergies and do a patch test first. Hippophae Rhamnoides Oil is also known as Sea Buckthorn Oil. This ingredient is very common in Russian skincare. It's an antioxidant with regenerating properties. The oil itself likes to colour the skin but in skincare products like Neogen's serum - you don't have to worry. The Powder Lemon is based on it, but the serum also contains it - in a smaller concentration - Ascorbic Acid. Tocopheryl Acetate is a form of Vitamin E, it's an antioxidant and a preservative. Neogen serum is full of fruit extracts like Citrus Paradisi (Grapefruit) Fruit Extract or Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract, usually, they have mild natural exfoliators. There's one ingredient that made me interested - Citrus Unshiu Peel Extract, it's a satsuma mandarin. It's an antioxidant with brightening properties, it might be useful with pigmentation.

How did I use this duo?

Testing this duo took me quite a big amount of time. The heatwave is not my friend so when I only felt like the temperature in the room is too high to put many skincare products at night I took a break from vitamin C treatments. Hopefully, bit over last week I was able to try Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon almost every day. At first, I tested Neogen Real Vita C Serum on my face then I've decided to use it on my arms and legs. Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon was used only on my face, I mixed it with 3 different moisturizers. I've tried to take photos of effects on my skin. I'm sorry for the quality of photos - I took them with my smartphone since it's easier to use a smartphone than a professional camera (with no flipped screen) in a dark bathroom.

Problems with serum

I've started my test with Neogen Real Vita C Serum. At first, I was very satisfied with the serum - my skin got brighter and I felt like the serum is working. I forgot about one thing, sensitive skin is not a fan of mixing vitamin C in any form with niacinamide. I started to see redness on my skin and I didn't know what's wrong with my face. After about 2 weeks I figured out that the problem is in the serum. I had a reaction to niacinamide + Vitamin C before and the best way of using this serum for me is by using it as a spot treatment if you have sensitive skin, you might also like to use it once in couple days.

Lemon Powder

Once I figured out what's the problem I've decided to change my plan so I started to mix Neogen Real Vita C Powder Lemon with my moisturizers. It is recommended to use this treatment mixed with essence but I believe that no matter if it's essence or moisturizer it'll work - unless moisturizer is an algae gel then it might turn into the water - I tried it before and I kinda didn't get what's wrong but the I ask a friend if maybe she knows this topic better. I went for 2 different moisturizers then and each one worked well with Neogen's Powder Lemon. The packaging of Vitamin C powder is made out of glass and I had some troubles with opening it but once I figured out that I should open it first and then focus on opening the moisturizer my life became easier. The tiny spatula got me, I didn't think that one tiny spatula is enough for my face at first then after I've tried this treatment I change my opinion. It's an economical solution for sensitive skin. All you have to do is mix one spatula of Neogen powder and a spatula (a different one, don't use Neogen's spatula for that) of moisturizer. Mix them with your finger and then apply it onto your skin. I recommend you to be careful with applying the mixture near lips because once or twice I had a problem when I felt the vitamin powder on my throat even if I was careful. You can use it every day or once in a couple of days. If your skin is very sensitive I recommend using it every couple days and then try to use it more often. Even if Vitamin C can be used in a morning routine, I went for evening routine and the best results for me were visible when I used this solution every night. The effects are mild but in my routine, it works excellent! I kinda feel like I can't live without Neogen anymore because I got less acne now (I also changed my diet so it's 50:50 effect), my skin is brighter and what's the most important - in well-combined skincare using Vitamin C might minimalize ice pick scars and post-acne skin changes but also brighten the skin.

Serum

As I said before my relationship with serum was good, it turned into bad and went back to be excellent. I forgot about my Niacinamide + Vitamin C sensitivity so I was walking for a month with redness all over my face. Since it was a season where I was working as an esthetician I thought that I got some skin disease from a client. Hopefully, it turned out that I can't use Neogen Real Vita C Serum on my face. The effects on my face weren't visible due to the redness but I thought that maybe using it on my hands and legs is a good idea. Because of allergic reactions, my skin is always covered with PIE/PIH. The pipette makes it easier to apply the serum on small scars so I applied the serum on my hands and legs and as you can see effects are visible. Due to the heatwave, I had some days off when I didn't use this solution but I never thought that my scars can disappear after using a skincare product. In both cases - Powder or Serum - remember to use a sunscreen while using Vitamin C products - even if Vitamin C makes sunscreens more effective. I have to admit that I used another Neogen product in my routine, it also helped me with pigmentation - Neogen Code 9 Lemon Green Caviar Essence & Tox Tightening Pack Kit.
