The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for the Body and Hair, The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp

After years of growth in skincare, finally we have a big growth in the hair care field. It's not a surprise that one of the most affordable, but effective brands The Ordinary decided to focus on hair care as well. How do The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for the Body and Hair, The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp work? Which The Ordinary hair care product is worth a try?

I got The Ordinary products from Skeepers. Even if I wasn't obliged to share my review on Kherblog, I still wanted to do this since IG posts are usually bit too short for me.

I have to admit, my relationship with The Ordinary is not perfect. I tried this brand before, and I do recommend it, but there are products which I hate not because of the brand but people. As an esthetician when I see people using The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution every single day or using it with dermaroller (I hate dermarollers, if you have to use them, use derma pen instead but never mix them with this peel!) I have one question - WHY? Especially when you can get entire instructions on how to use the products on Deciem's website.

About The Ordinary

The Ordinary is one of the brands released under the DECIEM company. It's a sister brand to NIOD. From what I found out The Ordinary first products were released in 2016, and the brand's motto is "Clinical formulations with integrity". Advanced formulas at affordable prices are the strongest point of this brand. What's also important, all brands under DECIEM have a great Black Friday policy - this brand has sales during the entire of November, not only on one weekend. I'm not even telling you how many times I wrote about The Ordinary during presentations at my university since EUK134 is quite a unique antioxidant. The brand is cruelty-free and many of the products created by the brand are vegan-friendly.

The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair

The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair - Packaging

The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair comes in a unique box. It's like a rectangle full of products. When I say full of product, I'm not kidding - the bottle is filled with the formula. I swear food brands should take note.

The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair - Texture & Scent

It has a transparent, gel-like formula. I don't smell anything in it.

The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair - Ingredients

Aqua (Water), Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Polysorbate 20, Xanthan Gum, Tocopherol, Phytic Acid, Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate, Benzyl Alcohol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Sodium Laureth Sulfate is a controversial ingredient. Clean beauty brands like to scare us with it, while drugstore brands use it a lot. SLES is an anionic surfactant - it helps with foaming. Many think Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) is the same as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS). SLES is more delicate than SLS. Polysorbate 20 is an emulsifier delicate for the skin. Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Phytic Acid is an antioxidant and delicate exfoliant (AHA). Usually, it comes with other acids. It neutralizes ions in products. Trisodium Ethylenediamine Disuccinate neutralizes metal ions in the product. Benzyl Alcohol is a preservative with perfuming properties. It smells like jasmine. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that lots of people try to demonize. The truth is that Phenoxyethanol is gentle on the skin, and has antiseptic properties. Chlorphenesin is a synthetic ingredient used as a preservative in cosmetics.

The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner

The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner - Packaging

Similar to The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair, The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner has a rectangle bottle filled fully with the formula.

The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner - Texture & Scent

This one is more like a creamy gel, and it has no scent.

The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner - Ingredients

Aqua (Water), Cetearyl Alcohol, Behentrimonium Chloride, Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gun, Phytic Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Cetearyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol. In the beauty industry, it's an emollient. Many people associate alcohol with something awful for the epidermis, but not every alcohol is nasty. Cetearyl alcohol leaves a moisturizing film on the skin to prevent your skin from transepidermal water loss (TEWL). We use Cetearyl alcohol to create an emulsion. Behentrimonium Chloride is a preservative popular in hair care products due to its antistatic properties. It's also a delicate surfactant. Cyamopsis Tetragonoloba (Guar) Gum thickens the formula. Phytic Acid is an antioxidant and delicate exfoliant (AHA). Usually, it comes with other acids. It neutralizes ions in products. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that lots of people try to demonize. The truth is that Phenoxyethanol is gentle on the skin, and has antiseptic properties. Chlorphenesin is a synthetic ingredient used as a preservative in cosmetics.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for the Scalp

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp - Packaging

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp comes in a paper box, inside you can see a glass bottle with a pipette. I love The Ordinary for sticking to glass bottles.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp - Texture & Scent

It's a liquid that looks like milk. When you apply it straight only your scalp be careful since it can run down. It has a delicate milky scent.

The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp - Ingredients

Aqua (Water), Squalane, C12-13 Alkyl Glyceryl Hydrolyzed Hyaluronate, Arginine, Aspartic Acid, Glycine, Alanine, Serine, Valine, Isoleucine, Proline, Threonine, Histidine, Phenylalanine, Glutamic Acid, Glucose, Fructose, Sucrose, PCA, Sodium PCA, Zinc PCA, Magnesium PCA, Manganese PCA, Urea, Sodium Lactate, Lactic Acid, Hexyl Nicotinate, Lauryl Glucoside, Myristyl Glucoside, Polyglyceryl-6 Laurate, Isoceteth-20, Dextrin, Hexylene Glycol, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Chlorphenesin

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Squalane is an ingredient very similar to our sebum. Squalane and squalene sound similar, but there's a difference. Squalane has no double bonds while squalene has double bonds. What does it mean? Squalane is a more stable version of squalene. What I love about this ingredient is how well it works with all skin types, and how our skin needs it. Believe me, if your skin is irritated - go for squalane! This ingredient is usually derived from sugarcane or olives. It acts like an emollient and you need it in your life. Arginine is an amino acid. It helps with protein biosynthesis in adults. According to research from 1964, a lack of arginine might raise your chance to get an HSV infection. Aspartic Acid is an amino acid, it occurs in the human body. Aspartic Acid takes part in Urea's cycle. It brings moisture to the skin. In hair care, Aspartic Acid protects hair from breakage and split ends. Glycine is an amino acid, it's a moisturizer that promotes wound healing. Alanine is an amino acid. It can delicately help with the moisture of the skin, and it has anti-static properties. Serine is an amino acid and one of the substances in the natural moisturizing factor (NMF). It's a humectant with anti-aging properties. In hair care, it has antistatic properties. Valine is a hydrating amino acid. It's one of the ingredients that boost the natural moisturizing factor (NMF).

Isoleucine is an amino acid. It's a moisturizer that helps repair the skin barrier. It has anti-static properties. Proline is an amino acid. It has anti-aging properties, it boosts skin elasticity. Proline + Vitamin C is a great combination for mature skin. Threonine is an amino acid with a positive influence on the skin since threonine helps with collagen and elastin synthesis. It makes your skin look smooth. It also has a positive meaning for the hair, it protects hair from break, has antistatic properties and makes curly hair look better. Histidine is an amino acid with soothing and moisturizing properties. It can be helpful with Candida infection. Phenylalanine is an amino acid. It's a moisturizing ingredient and a part of the natural moisturizing factor (NMF). Phenylalanine is used in combination with UVA to treat vitiligo. Glutamic Acid is an amino acid that naturally occurs in the human body. It's a humectant that helps with the right pH of the skin. Glucose is a monosaccharide - a simple sugar, and we all know that sugars in skincare are nothing else than humectants. Fructose is a sugar obtained from fruits, and as we already know sugar always has moisturizing properties. Sucrose is nothing else than sugar, and what do sugars do in cosmetics? They moisturize! PCA or Pyroglutamic Acid is a humectant. Sodium PCA stands for Sodium Pyrrolidone Carboxylic Acid, and it's a humectant. It leaves a hydrating film on your skin that prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Sodium PCA naturally occurs in the skin. Zinc PCA might remind you of Zinc Oxide, but it's a mix of zinc and pyrrolidone carboxylic acid. This duo moderates sebum production and fights acne. Zinc PCA also has positive effects on scalp problems. Magnesium PCA is a humectant that boosts the hydration of the skin. Manganese PCA is a powerful humectant.

Urea (or Carbamide) is an ingredient with various use in skincare, but it's also a substance which you can naturally find in your body and... pee. It might sound a bit disgusting, but it's a humectant which is one of the best ways to heal the skin after hair removal with a razor. Sometimes it happens that after the hair removal procedure skin is irritated, and we have to deal with razor bumps, ingrown and other problems - urea is one of the solutions because we need to moisturize the skin. A higher concentration of Urea can be used on feet. Sodium Lactate is a salt form of Lactic Acid. Usually, it derives from wheat or beets in a fermentation process. It works as a humectant, and it balances the pH of the product. Lactic Acid is an alpha hydroxy acid. It's a natural moisturizing factor with exfoliating properties - the right pH and concentration of this peel have an important meaning in how it will act on the skin. Lactic Acid is gentler than Glycolic Acid due to the bigger molecular size of the Lactic Acid molecule. In concentrations up to 10% it's a powerful moisturizer, any product with lactic acid above 10% can lift dead skin cells and help with wrinkles. Hexyl Nicotinate is an antistatic emollient. It might increase blood flow. Lauryl Glucoside is a delicate, nonionic surfactant. It's a biodegradable ingredient. Myristyl Glucoside is a surfactant. Polyglyceryl-6 Laurate is an emulsifier. Isoceteth-20 is a nonionic surfactant and oil-in-water emulsifier. Dextrin is an emulsifier with stabilizing properties. Hexylene Glycol is a water-soluble solvent and surfactant. It has emulsifying properties. Potassium Sorbate is a water-soluble preservative. It's a weak preservative and should be paired with another preservative. Phenoxyethanol is a preservative that lots of people try to demonize. The truth is that Phenoxyethanol is gentle on the skin, and has antiseptic properties. Chlorphenesin is a synthetic ingredient used as a preservative in cosmetics.

The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for the Body and Hair, The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner and The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp

How does The Ordinary hair care series work?

The Ordinary haircare is super affordable, and I want you to treat this review more like a first impression. I should start by describing my hair - I got bleached and toned hair, my scalp is sensitive and oily and I got low porosity hair that needs a perfect balance. They are quite hard to dry and brush. I prefer formulas with silicones since they make it easier to brush my hair.

The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair is a very simple cleanser which you can use with dyed hair. It's supposed to fit all skin types and all hair types and remove product buildup. I can't say that I'm a fan of this product because I prefer formulas with a bit of scent, but I could use this shampoo after bleaching my hair since usually my skin 3-4 days after bleaching my roots get dry and I need better scalp care. Honestly, if you plan to buy another shampoo for $8 from one of the drugstore brands, I would go for The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair instead. Why? Because the formula is free from many stuff that your hair doesn't need. In my case, I plan to use The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for Body and Hair as a body care product instead because I'm allergic and lately I had to give up CeraVe SA Cleanser started to irritate my skin to Sanex Cleansing Gel.

The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner is probably the biggest disappointment for me since it lacks something. My hair looks softer, but at the same time, they feel quite harsh, and I have problems brushing them. Every scalp and hair are different, just like skin. I know lots of people enjoy this one, but it's a no for me. Still, it's quite an affordable conditioner.

The products I fell in love with! Meet The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp - even if I'm supposed to use it after washing my hair, I usually use it overnight and then wash my hair in the morning. If you feel like your scalp is a bit itchy (and I got that all the time I leave my hair without washing it for a few days) - it calms your itchy and dry scalp so well. The texture is like milk so it's better to apply it straight onto your scalp and massage the scalp well. If you have problems with losing your hair, you might prefer to go for The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density, but for dry scalp, The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for Scalp is the best.

Where to buy The Ordinary products?

You can get these products at The Ordinary's website and at your local Sephora. The Ordinary Sulphate 4% Cleanser for the Body and Hair and The Ordinary Behentrimonium Chloride 2% Conditioner costs $8/240ml each. The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for the Scalp costs $12.80/60ml.

Overall, The Ordinary hair care line is affordable, and many people will enjoy this one. My personal favourite is The Ordinary Natural Moisturizing Factors + HA for the Scalp.
