Skin1004 Special Picky Award-Winning Product Set

Skin1004 is a brand which you probably see a lot lately. It's not a surprise why Picky's community selected a few of Skin1004 products as their favourite. Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil, Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule, Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-cica Sleeping Pack and Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-cica Water-fit Sun Serum SPF50+ Pa++++ were selected as top products. Are they worth a try?

Why Centella is good for your skin?

If I would ever tell you that Centella Asiatica belongs to the Apiaceae family and it's related to celery, you would probably never believe me. But that's a fact! Centella is a herb with a long tradition and few nicknames. You probably heard names such as tiger grass or Gotu kola, but Asiatic pennywort might be new to you. This plant grows in many beautiful places like India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Australia and Madagascar. This plant loves the humid climate. Centella has a wide use - from herbal medicine to culinary. I believe at this point you expect me to say "it's a hanbang ingredient", but Centella's roots are in Ayurveda, and many African and Asian countries, Centella has been a folk remedy for ages. Its primary use as a folk remedy is to boost your brain as well as to help with anxiety, stomach issues, hepatitis and inflammation of the urinary tract. Centella has wide use in skin diseases such as eczema, psoriasis or vitiligo.

We should ask one important question, why Centella is so popular in skincare? To find that out, we should look deeper into Centella. This plant contains substances called " triterpene saponins" - bioactive compounds of many plants. Centella has many of them, but we mostly talk about four different triterpene saponins in skincare: madecassoside, asiaticoside, madecassic acid and asiatic acid. Depending on where the Centella comes from, the number of different triterpene saponins might be a bit different. Madagascar Centella used by Skin1004 is mostly full of these four ingredients I mentioned before. Centella in skincare has many positive effects. If you've got acne-prone skin, you should choose Centella over for example Arbutin. While many of us use strong products to fight pigmentation after a pimple, usually we choose products to fight PIH - post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. That's a mistake because post-acne pigmentation and scars are not PIH, but PIE - post-inflammatory erythema. PIH and PIE are not the same, and how do you treat irritated skin? Not by irritating it more, but instead, we are focusing on calming the skin. Centella is a powerful healing ingredient - it speeds up wound healing. It stimulates collagen production which has positive effects on scars and wrinkles. It strengthens the blood vessels in the skin, that's why it might help with visible blood vessels - especially if your skin is thin, so you might want to add Centella to your skincare.

Centella is not all about skincare, but hair care and body care - it stimulates hair growth and fights cellulite. Using Centella after pregnancy is a clever move!

About the brand

Although the name of each Skin1004 product has "Madagascar" in it, it's not a brand from Madagascar. Skin1004 is a Korean brand, but the inspiration for the brand came from nature. Skin1004 focused on every product created by the brand on Centella Asiatica from Madagascar. Does it matter where the Centella came from? Yes, the environment in which Centella grew can make difference, and Madagascar's Centella is rich in four compounds which in my opinion are mostly useful for my skin (and yours too!) - madecassoside, asiaticoside, madecassic acid and asiatic acid. Skin1004 is free from artificial pigments. Every time we talk about Centella, we talk about Cica, but Skin1004 is focused on TECA aka Titrated Extract of Centella Asiatica - asiaticoside, madecassic acid and asiatic acid. The name Skin1004 sounds like Skin Angel in Korean, and the name is clever since Skin1004 is a true guardian of your skin.

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil - Packaging

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil is one of the products from the most classic Skin1004 line. A plastic bottle comes in a paper box with a mountain view - but this one reminds me a bit of the desert. If you look behind the bottle you'll see the mountain view pattern.

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil - Texture & Scent

It's an oily and watery texture with almost no scent.

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil - Ingredients

Ethylhexyl Stearate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Centella Asiatica Extract (10,000Ppm), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Ethylhexylglycerin, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Rosa Damascena Flower Oil

Ethylhexyl Stearate is an oily emollient. It prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss) by creating a film on the skin. Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is an emollient that leaves a velvet layer on the surface of the skin. It appears in cleansing products, and it makes brushing and detangling your hair easier. Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate is an emulsifier. It's self-emulsifying so it's a good choice for cleansing oils. Centella Asiatica Extract (10,000Ppm) is probably the most popular extract in skincare. It comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This extract is successful because it's a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Centella Asiatica Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It speeds up the wound-healing process. You can use it to treat acne since it has soothing and antibacterial properties. It boosts fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin or even helps with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Centella is recommended for rosacea and cellulitis since it helps with blood microcirculation. In hair care, Centella can help with hair growth. Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil is a source of linoleic acid and vitamin E. Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil works as an emollient. Sometimes you can see it as a carrier oil for other substances. It has anti-inflammatory properties and makes the skin barrier stronger. This oil should work on all types of hair porosity. Citrus Aurantium Bergamia (Bergamot) Fruit Oil is an essential oil. It has a typical scent that might remind you of Earl Grey tea, in the beauty industry we use it for the same purposes, even if it is told to have mild anti-septic properties and help with sebum production. Usually, Bergamot Fruit Oil contains furanocoumarins - phototoxic substances, but there are also furanocoumarin-free versions of this oil. Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil is an oil which you probably know well from your kitchen. Olive Oil in cosmetics works as an emollient. It's a source of many antioxidants and vitamins such as vitamins A, and E and fatty acids like oleic acid. It has nourishing properties. Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil is an emollient and a source of vitamin E. The structure of jojoba oil is very similar to human sebum, that's why all skin types shouldn't be scared of this oil. It creates a delicate, non-oily film barrier on the surface of the skin. It helps to restore your hydrolipid barrier. Jojoba oil can be applied straight onto the skin. In hair care, jojoba oil makes hair stronger and hydrated. PS. Jojoba oil isn't an oil, but a waxy ester. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil is an essential oil ideal for acne-prone and mature skin types. It moderates sebum production, has antibacterial properties and can help with cellulite. It makes blood vessels less fragile. It's mostly used for its scent properties. Rosa Damascena Flower Oil is a rose oil. This ingredient has a beautiful, floral scent. It's a source of eugenol, beta-pinene, alfa-pinene and other substances. It has antiseptic and antibacterial properties. Rose Oil calms the skin and helps with visible blood veins. It's recommended for mature skin due to its anti-wrinkle properties.

How does Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil work?

I have to admit, this Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Light Cleansing Oil is a big surprise for me, because it's a very watery oil. It reminds me a bit of Innisfree green tea cleansing oil. It's a self-emulsifying formula that doesn't leave an oily residue on the skin. I currently switched to this product and I'm sure I'll share with you a full review soon.

Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule

How does Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Ampoule work?

I guess it's the most classic ampoule lately. I believe that Centella Extract is not the only ingredient in the formula, but as you know (or it's going to be new to you) - depending on the country you're in, the law related to the cosmetic product might be different. Not every ingredient must be on a list - the key is the amount. Anyway, I'm not surprised why this ampoule gets so many good reviews. It's a lightweight ampoule with no scent. It's delicate for the skin. It feels like a universal gift.

Centella Asiatica Leaf Water is a soothing ingredient. Centella Asiatica comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This ingredient is successful because Centella is a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. It helps with problems like wrinkles, acne, skin texture, and enlarged pores and promotes collagen synthesis. Niacinamide makes the skin barrier stronger. It might be handy in cellulite treatments. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Polyglutamic Acid is a polymer with high moisturizing properties. Since it's a big molecule that naturally occurs in fermented soy, it leaves a film on the skin. Pantolactone is a synthetic humectant. It hydrates the skin and prevents the product from drying out. Hibiscus Esculentus Extract is a hydrating antioxidant. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener. Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Panthenol is also known as vitamin B5, and it helps with inflammation. Panthenol can soothe the skin irritated by preservatives, scent ingredients, and chemical sunscreens - it might have a meaning for lipids in our skin and skin barrier. It speeds up the healing process. It's good to use it after sunbathing. In hair care, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. If you have problems detangling your hair or hair growth go for Panthenol. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. You can see it in products for atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Sodium Hyaluronate or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate combined with elastin and collagen is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying. Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is a low-weight humectant. We have to remember that not every molecule can get through the skin surface and lower molecule HA can penetrate the skin deeper and bring moisture inside the skin. It's a natural polymer that binds water in the skin to prevent TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Hyaluronic Acid is an ingredient loved by everyone! Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the skin. It's a glycosaminoglycan or GAG. What does that mean? It's a long polysaccharide - nothing else than sugar, and we all know what sugars do in the skin. It's not different from Hyaluronic Acid - it acts like a humectant. One HA molecule is supposed to hold up to 1000x heavier molecules than this one single HA molecule. Hyaluronic acid can have different molecular weights - smaller molecules are usually more hydrating than bigger ones. Olivem 1000 is a combination of Cetearyl Olivate and Sorbitan Olivate. It's a natural emulsifier, and beauty companies use it to create an oil-in-water emulsion. Worth mentioning it's a biodegradable formula. Methylpropanediol is a solvent with antimicrobial properties. Arginine is an amino acid. It helps with protein biosynthesis in adults. According to research from 1964, a lack of arginine might raise your chance to get an HSV infection.

Pullulan is a polysaccharide, it prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss) by creating a protective film on the surface of the skin. It makes products easier to apply and spread on the skin. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a combination of coconut oil and glycerin. It's a notable emollient, quite common in skincare. It leaves a protective film on the surface of the epidermis to save your cutis from dehydration. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride has a significant role in skin care products - it makes the application process effortless. Some people might experience pore-clogging after using Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, but pore-clogging and skin reactions to ingredients are individual. What works for you might not work for someone else. Pyrus Communis (Pear) Fruit Extract is an antioxidant with moisturizing properties. Adenosine naturally occurs in the skin. One of the adenosine's roles in our bodies is being a neurotransmitter. In skin care, we use adenosine for its anti-wrinkle properties. Adenosine is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can boost collagen production. At the same time, it speeds up the healing process. Adenosine can have positive effects on reducing redness. In hair care, adenosine can help with hair loss. Rosa Damascena Flower Water is a rose hydrosol with anti-inflammatory properties. It's a source of flavonoids and it's a great choice for dry, mature and acne-prone skin types. It might be sensitizing. Cucumis Melo (Melon) Fruit Extract is an antioxidant. You might know this fruit as honeydew melon or cantaloupe. It's a source of Vitamin C, A, zinc, lycopene and carotene. It has anti-aging properties. Iris Florentina (Orris) Root Extract is a source of isoflavones and xanthones. It has a characteristic scent and it's a phytohormone. It improves skin elasticity. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Hedera Helix (Ivy) Leaf/Stem Extract is a source of rutin, p-coumaric acid and isoquercitrin. It has anti-inflammatory properties and enhances blood circulation. Sodium Phytate is a chelating agent derived from corn. It neutralizes the ions in the products to make sure your product stays a fresh bit longer. Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. Maltodextrin is a stabilizing ingredient that can hydrate your skin and absorb sebum. Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract is one of the ingredients from the Artemisia family. Artemisia Princeps is also known as Japanese mugwort, first wormwood or Yomogi. Mugwort is still a trendy ingredient in K-beauty. Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract is an anti-inflammatory ingredient and a source of phellandrenes. Melatonin is a hormone released in the pineal gland. It is related to sleep since melatonin is synthesized during the night. It's an antioxidant with a positive meaning to the skin - it protects our skin from free radicals. Don't mess with melatonin and melanin - they are not the same substance. Illicium Verum (Anise) Fruit Extract is an antioxidant with antimicrobial properties. Larix Sibirica Wood Extract is an antioxidant with antimicrobial properties. It might help with pigmentation. Persicaria Hydropiper (Water Pepper) Extract is an antioxidant and a source of quercetin. It soothes the skin and adds moisture. Asarum Sieboldii (Wild Ginger) Root Extract is a root extract form of a plant which grows mostly in Japan and China. Asarum Sieboldii (Wild Ginger) Root Extract has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It might inhibit melanin synthesis and promote hair growth. Chrysanthellum Indicum (Golden Chamomile) Extract is a source of flavonoids and carotenoids. It's an antioxidant with a soothing effect. It helps with redness. Corydalis Turtschaninovii Root Extract had anti-inflammatory properties, it can even be a potent antioxidant. Coptis Chinensis (Chinese Gold Thread) Root Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It's also an antioxidant. Coptis Chinensis is one of the main herbs in Chinese Traditional Medicine because this herb is antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. It soothes the skin and might help with acne and cellulitis. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. Hydrogenated Lecithin is a version of lecithin. It works as an emollient in the formulas. Ceramides naturally occur in the skin - it's like cement in the skin. Ceramide NP strengthens the skin barrier to prevent dehydration.

How does Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-cica Sleeping Pack work?

Many people love it. Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-cica Sleeping Pack is a good choice for oily skin, but I'm not sure if I'll love it because it contains niacinamide and my skin is not a big fan of it. It does have a nice smell and beautiful texture. If your skin reacts well to niacinamide - go for it, it's worth a try.

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Dibutyl Adipate is an oily emollient. This oil-soluble ingredient dissolves in oils. It creates a hydrating film on the surface of the skin to prevent the skin from dehydration. You can meet it in sunscreens as a solvent. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative to propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate or Uvinul A Plus is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVA range (320-400 nm), and its peak of protection is 354 nm. Ethylhexyl Triazone or Uvinul T 150 is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVB range (280-320nm). Its peak is at 314 nm. Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol sounds a bit like a magic spell. You might know it as a Tinosorb M - a new generation of sun-protecting agents. Tinosorb M is a broad-spectrum filter since it covers UVA and UVB wavelengths (280-400nm). It's a so-called hybrid sunscreen agent because it's between mineral and chemical sunscreen agents. It might leave some white cast. Coco-Caprylate/Caprate is an oily emollient derived from coconut. Some people call this amazing emollient, a "natural silicone". It leaves a silky, moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. Caprylyl Methicone is an alkylmethyl silicone and emollient. It has a waxy texture, and it makes the product easier to apply. It works great with natural ingredients and pigment. It's a volatile silicone so you don't have to worry - it disappeared almost right after application. Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone is another hard name, but you can also call it Uvasorb HEB. It protects the skin from UVB and UVA II radiation ( it doesn't cover UVA I wavelength range). It's a photostable ingredient used in water-resistant formulas. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Centella Asiatica Extract (9,800Ppm) is probably the most popular extract in skincare. Green tea is a source of many positive skin substances such as catechins (EGCG, EGC, EC, CG), flavonoids, amino acids, vitamin C, and minerals. It works for all skin types. Since it has antibacterial properties, many products for young, acne-prone skin contain this ingredient. It has soothing properties, and it's good to use it along with sunscreen to boost the protection of your skin. Triticum Vulgare (Wheat) Sprout Extract is an ingredient I'm not a fan of since if you're allergic to gluten, you might want to stay away from it. If you have oily skin, wheat also isn't always the best thing for your skin type, but wheat extract if it comes to hair can be nourishing. Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Sprout Extract is an astringent. Broccoli is a source of vitamin C. People believe that this extract can have brightening properties. Camellia Japonica Leaf Extract is an antioxidant with anti-aging properties. Behenyl Alcohol might sound scary, but it's a fatty alcohol. This type of alcohol is positive for the skin since it works as an emollient. It helps with the texture of the product. Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate is an oil-in-water emulsifier, suitable for vegans. Decyl Glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant that works as an emulsifier and thickener. In hair care, adenosine can help with hair loss. Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. t-Butyl Alcohol is a solvent with a scent similar to camphor. It's common in perfumes. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Inositol is a substance called "Vitamin B8", I want to make you aware that it's incorrect since inositol can be synthesised in the human body. Vitamins are not synthesised in the human body, but inositol is since it's not a vitamin. It has hydrating properties and it's a key to healthy hair! Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties.

How does Skin1004 Madagascar Centella Hyalu-cica Water-fit Sun Serum SPF50+ Pa++++ work?

I tried this sunscreen last year and I do plan to post a full review of it because it was one of the best sunscreens I tried in 2022! It has the right SPF and a perfect texture for the skin. The tube is ideal - you can put it in a bag, and it won't take up too much space. It's not a surprise for me why so many people love it.
