Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm

One of the worst categories of skincare products to find are cleansers, especially if you're living in Europe. Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm is a Purito that tries to create a nourishing cleanser that removes sebum, dirt and impurities without destroying the skin barrier. Is Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm the best cleansing balm of 2023?

What's a cleanser?

According to the Cambridge Dictionary Cleanser is "a substance used for cleaning, especially your face". That's correct. If we want to be more specific we might add that a cleanser is a substance that contains cleansing agents, another name for them is surfactants. Cleanser is a product that removes dirt, sebum and products (makeup, sunscreen).

Cleansing Oil or Cleansing Balm

Oil-based products. These products are the best to remove makeup, sebum or products like sunscreens. Some oils are emulsifying (I believe the majority of Korean and Japanese cleansing oils are emulsifying ones) like Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm or Klairs Gentle Black Deep Cleansing Oil. Emulsifying ones are easier to remove since you can add water to them and these products change into milk.

There are also cleansing oils that aren't emulsifying, I see that mostly local (European) brands are creating non-emulsifying cleansing oils since they are created for the OCM - oil cleansing method. I've tried cleansing oil like that from Resibo (a Polish skincare brand), and I believe the OCM method is not for me. It takes time, and removing non-emulsifying oil can take ages.

Does pH in cleanser matter?

Yes! Back in the day, toners were supposed to balance the pH of the skin after cleansing. Right now, toners have other purposes like nourishing and adding moisture to the skin. If you use a water-based cleanser, you might want to choose products with a pH similar to the skin. A higher pH of the skin is bad for the natural skin barrier, it can disrupt the function of the skin barrier and cause infections or irritation. Higher pH of the skin is also a good environment for acne.

If you have acne and you tried a series of products but nothing helps with your skin condition, you might want to check your cleansing gel and its pH.

Can I use pure water to clean my skin?

Some people don't like to use cleansers or they think that water is the only good solution to cleanse their skin. I believe that pure water is better than no cleansing at all. If your skin is very dry or your skin barrier needs to rebuild then using pure water instead of any cleansing product might be good. Still, it's not something I would recommend doing every single day.

What's double cleansing?

Double cleansing is mostly associated with Asian skincare routines, especially Korean ones. I even found some articles (not research papers) that this method of cleansing comes from the 14th century. Sadly, I couldn't find a source of this information.

Double cleansing is a method of cleansing dry skin with oil-based products like cleansing oil or balm and following it with cleansing foam or cleansing gel. Between these two steps, we use water (not too cold, not too warm) to emulsify the oil.

Using double cleansing is supposed to remove makeup and make sure that none of the impurities are left on the skin.

What's triple cleansing?

I'm not joking, there's not only double cleansing, there's also triple cleansing. It's about using a makeup remover before double cleansing to remove makeup. I'm not a fan of using makeup wipes, but if you have heavy makeup then using cleansing pads soaked in micellar water and leaving them for a while on the skin before double cleansing can make it easier for makeup to remove.

About Purito

Purito is a K-beauty brand focused on the skin and the environment. The brand made a cool video about its history and why it decided to remove mineral oils, PEGs and many other ingredients. The name Purito is a combination of the words Purify and the Chinese character To (土) which stands for soil. The brand name's meaning is to go back to the roots and healthy skin barrier with pure ingredients. The brand is against animal testing, so all their products are Cruelty-Free, they also donate money to Best Friend Animal Society. All the formulas (except snail line) are 100% Vegan- Friendly. They also make paper packaging from recycled paper - that's one of the things you'll notice ASAP. The packaging used by Purito has a different colour and texture. They also donate money to the Korean Federation For Environmental Movement. Purito products are free from Paraben, Ethanol, PEG, Triclosan, Mineral Oil, Silicone, Petrolatum, Sulfate, Phthalate and Oxybenzone. Products are free from synthetic fragrances and colourants.

Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm - Texture & Scent

The texture of Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm is white and solid. It melts easily under the natural heat of the skin. The product texture might have a light yellow colour or it can crack. There might be oil droplets on the top of the product. All these things are normal, and you don't have to be scared.

What I love about Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm is the lack of synthetic scent in the product.

Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm - Ingredients

Ethylhexyl Palmitate, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate, Synthetic Wax, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil (10,000ppm), Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Seed Oil, Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil, Brassica oleracea Acephala Leaf Extract, Spinacia Oleracea (Spinach) Leaf Extract, Brassica oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract, Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract, Brassica Oleracea Capitata (Cabbage) Leaf Extract, Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopherol

Ethylhexyl Palmitate is an oily emollient that provides a satin-like film on the skin. It makes brushing your hair easier. Cetyl Ethylhexanoate is an emollient that leaves a velvet layer on the surface of the skin. It appears in cleansing products, and it makes brushing and detangling your hair easier. Sorbeth-30 Tetraoleate is an emulsifier. It's self-emulsifying so it's a good choice for cleansing oils. Synthetic Wax is a synthetic substance that is supposed to work as natural wax. It's an emollient that prevents TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a combination of coconut oil and glycerin. It's a notable emollient, quite common in skincare. It leaves a protective film on the surface of the epidermis to save your cutis from dehydration. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride has a significant role in skin care products - it makes the application process effortless. Some people might experience pore-clogging after using Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride but pore-clogging and skin reactions to ingredients are individual. What works for you might not work for someone else. Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil (10,000 ppm) is an oily emollient and source of lecithin, oleic acid and linoleic acid. It can help with skin regeneration. Citrullus Lanatus (Watermelon) Seed Oil is an emollient rich in omega fatty acids, vitamins and minerals. It has antioxidant properties and it has a beneficial effect on the skin barrier. It's a stable oil. Adansonia Digitata Seed Oil is an oily emollient and a source of oleic acid, linoleic acid, vitamins A, E and phytosterols. It creates a protective film on the surface of the skin to prevent TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). It's recommended for sensitive and dry skin types. Brassica Oleracea Acephala (Kale) Leaf Extract is a source of beta-carotene and chlorogenic acid. It has positive effects on the skin barrier. Spinacia Oleracea (Spinach) Leaf Extract is rich in antioxidants. It might have some anti-ageing properties. Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract is an astringent. Broccoli is a source of vitamin C. People believe that this extract can have brightening properties. Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract is one of the ingredients from the Artemisia family. Artemisia Princeps is also known as Japanese mugwort, first wormwood or Yomogi. Mugwort is still a trendy ingredient in K-beauty. Artemisia Princeps Leaf Extract is an anti-inflammatory ingredient and a source of phellandrenes. Brassica Oleracea Capitata (Cabbage) Leaf Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It's a source of beta-carotene, oleic acid and quercetin. Hydrogenated Vegetable Oil is an oily emollient. It leaves an occlusive film on the surface of the skin and hair. Caprylyl Glycol is an oily emollient and humectant. It leaves a moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars.

How does Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm work?

I'm aware that Purito products get lots of hype the minute they are announced by the brand, and it's not a surprise. Purito has affordable products, and the brand has a strategy to go greener. The formula is vegan-friendly and even the packaging colour looks exciting. So should you get Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm?

Yes! I've tried Purito From Green Cleansing Oil before and Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm is way better. If you enjoyed the cleansing oil (which is not my favourite cleansing oil) then Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm is going to blow your mind. It's a cleansing product based on ingredients that have nourishing properties for the skin. The things that are important for me are very easy - I need a cleanser that melts easily, is easy to remove with cleansing foam, is an emulsifying cleanser and doesn't leave a fog in my eyes. Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm checks all these points. I love how smooth it is to apply on the skin, and how well it removes even the worst mascaras in my collection (I even made a reel with this cleanser removing my Halloween makeup). It's a product I wish I had when I was using Missha's waterproof mascara.

There's nothing bad I can say about this product, even if I love to be a bit "picky" if it comes to skincare products, I see myself repurchasing Purito From Green Avocado Cleansing Balm.
