COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum

The last time I tried this brand was ages ago, even though through the years, COSRX has been gaining more popularity every single year. COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum is one of the last products released by COSRX in 2023. What's so good in peptides and COSRX that makes people go for this product? Do you need a booster in your routine?

Yes, the last time I wrote about COSRX was 2 years ago, even if last year in Warsaw I bought COSRX Ceramide Cream, but there were no upgrades, so I didn't feel like writing another post about it. I do plan to write more about routines, trends, etc but so far 2024 started and it's quite busy.

About COSRX

COSRX is a South Korean brand which you might know from the internet, it's a huge brand - the beauty community loves COSRX products. COSRX was founded in 2013, the name COSRX stands for COSmetics + RX(Prescription). Lots of beauty bloggers love COSRX, and there's one reason why COSRX got so big - the product quality and the affordable price. COSRX for me was one of the first K-beauty brands I tried, and I keep buying their Acne Pimple Master Patches all the time - in the US it's different, but in Europe getting acne patches is not an easy thing. Even if COSRX is mostly known for their acne-prone skincare products they make their formulas simple and universal so even if your skin is dry you might be still able to use them - oily skin can get dehydrated as well. COSRX is a cruelty-free brand, and that's another good point of this brand, but it's not a vegan brand since it uses snail mucin, beeswax, propolis, etc. In late 2023 Amorepacific acquired COSRX shares which makes COSRX Amorepacific's subsidiary.

According to COSRX, The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum is a product based on 6 potent peptides.

COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum - Packaging

I don't see that COSRX would put as much effort into packaging as I see lately. Many brands are focusing on making their products more sustainable. COSRX use FSC-certified paper. When you open the paper box, you can see that the pump cap is made out of PP (Polypropylene), the Pump is listed as OTHER, the plastic bottle is PET (Polyethylene terephthalate) and the label can be removed and it's also PP. Inside the box, you can find a manual. The bottle contains 150ml of booster serum. There's also a 30ml version available. The text on the paper box is in both Korean and English, the manual inside has information in Korean, English, Norwegian, French, Spanish, Swedish, German, Finnish, Polish, Italian, Portugal, Romanian, Danish, Czech, Bulgarian, Greek, Dutch, Hungarian and Turkish.

COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum - Texture & Scent

COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum texture is similar to essence. After all, COSRX tells us that it's a serum, even if many stores name it only booster, not booster serum. It's a lightweight, but hydrating texture that gets absorbed quickly. I do not smell any specific scent in this product.

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Dipropylene Glycol is a solvent with moisturizing properties. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. It helps with problems like wrinkles, acne, skin texture, and enlarged pores and promotes collagen synthesis. Niacinamide makes the skin barrier stronger. It might be handy in cellulite treatments. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer is a polymer with thickening properties. Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6 is a thickener, it helps create elegant, non-sticky formulas. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Adenosine naturally occurs in the skin. One of the adenosine's roles in our bodies is being a neurotransmitter. In skin care, we use adenosine for its anti-wrinkle properties. Adenosine is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can boost collagen production. At the same time, it speeds up the healing process. Adenosine can have positive effects on reducing redness. In hair care, adenosine can help with hair loss. Polyquaternium-51 is a synthetic humectant. Disodium EDTA neutralizes metal ions in the formula to keep products fresh. Citric acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) - a delicate exfoliant and a buffering ingredient. It adjusts the pH of the formula. Caprylyl Glycol is an oily emollient and humectant. It leaves a moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. Betaine is an amino acid. In skincare products, we use it for its moisturizing properties. Betaine keeps the water balance of the skin. It makes wrinkles appear less visible, and it soothes irritated skin. In hair care, betaine doesn't only moisturize the hair. It makes hair soft and shiny. Betaine in cosmetics usually comes from sweet beetroots. It naturally occurs in the skin and hair. t-Butyl Alcohol is a solvent with a scent similar to camphor. It's common in perfumes.

Sodium PCA is a humectant. Sodium Lactate regulates the pH of the product, but it also helps with the moisture of the skin. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is a synthetic peptide (sometimes called neuropeptide or biomimetic peptide). Lots of brands and media did a great job marketing this substance. That's why you can spot it with names such as Botox-like peptides or treatments. It won't give you the same effects as Botox, but there are some similarities. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 can help with wrinkles by decreasing the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines created by repetitive movements of muscles. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 inhibits SNARE complex and catecholamine release. It can stimulate collagen synthesis, and it has powerful, water-binding properties. That's why acetyl hexapeptide-8 might increase the moisture of the skin. It's better to use this peptide near the eye area to prevent fine lines in the eye area. Unless you have drooping eyelids, then the use of acetyl hexapeptide-8 is not recommended for you. If you have muscle problems, it's better to consult with your doctor or PT first, before adding acetyl hexapeptide-8 to your routine. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 can hide under the name Argireline or Acetyl Hexapeptide-3. Copper Tripeptide-1 is a peptide created with three amino acids: glycine, histidine and lysine + copper. It boosts collagen and elastin production. It's super useful in wound healing - especially for acne-prone skin. Copper Tripeptide-1 is an antioxidant that stimulates hair growth and prevents hair loss. PCA or Pyroglutamic Acid is a humectant. sh-Polypeptide-121 is a biomimetic human collagen, this ingredient is vegan. This peptide acts like Collagen type 21 in our skin. It helps with wrinkles and skin elasticity. sh-Polypeptide-121 is a biomimetic human collagen, this ingredient is vegan. This peptide acts like Collagen type 21 in our skin. It helps with wrinkles and skin elasticity. Serine is an amino acid and one of the substances in the natural moisturizing factor (NMF). It's a humectant with anti-ageing properties. In hair care, it has antistatic properties. Alanine is an amino acid. It can delicately help with moisture of the skin and it has anti-static properties. Allantoin is an ingredient that naturally occurs in our bodies, but brands usually go for the synthetic form of this substance. It comes from comfrey or soybean roots. It's a humectant with soothing and wound-healing properties. Sodium Hyaluronate or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate combined with elastin and collagen is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying. Acetyl Glucosamine is a precursor of Hyaluronic Acid. It's an ingredient that helps with skin brightening and elasticity. Glycine is an amino acid. Glycine is one of the components found in collagen. It has moisturizing properties and it helps with wrinkles.

Glutamic Acid is an amino acid that naturally occurs in the human body. It's a humectant that helps with the right pH of the skin. Lysine HCl is an amino acid salt. It stimulates hair growth and adds moisture to hair and skin. It has anti-static properties, it helps with wrinkles too. Threonine is an amino acid with a positive influence on the skin since threonine helps with collagen and elastin synthesis. It makes your skin look smooth. It also has a positive meaning for the hair, it protects hair from break, has antistatic properties and makes curly hair look better. Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate might sound weird, but you probably know it as Syn-Ake. It's a peptide that is supposed to work like botox and some people even call it a botox in a jar. It's supposed to relax your face and make wrinkles less visible. Arginine is an amino acid. It helps with protein biosynthesis in adults. According to research from 1964, a lack of arginine might raise your chance of getting an HSV infection. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Oligopeptide-68 or ß-White is an encapsulated biomimetic peptide. It has brightening properties. Usually, we see ingredients that brighten the skin by inhibiting tyrosinase, but this peptide is inhibiting the MITF factor. Proline is an amino acid. It has anti-aging properties, it boosts skin elasticity. Proline + Vitamin C is a great combination for mature skin. Dextran is a polysaccharide which means it's a sugar. Every sugar in skincare has moisturizing properties. Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 is a synthetic peptide also known as Neutrazen. This peptide has calming properties. It helps with irritation after UV exposure. Glycine Soja (Soybean) Oil is an emollient with a neutral scent. This oil is a source of flavonoids, lecithin, vitamin E, linoleic and oleic acids. It works as an oily emollient, and it's a good oil for massages. Hydrogenated Lecithin is a version of lecithin. It works as an emollient in the formulas. Potassium Sorbate is a water-soluble preservative. It's a weak preservative, and it should be paired with another preservative. Sodium Oleate is an emulsifier.

How to mix COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum with other COSRX products?

You can layer this booster or mix it with Retinol, Niacinamide, Vitamin C, Hyaluronic Acid or Snail Mucin.

COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum

How does COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum work?

Let's be honest, our skincare routines are already sumptuous - we use a few different toners, and serums for each part of the skin or we rotate products depending on part of the day. So is booster going to be a new trend? I don't think so. Even COSRX says this product can be used instead of toner, as the first product to use after cleanser. I'm almost 30, so I find products like COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum great, especially during winter when my skin needs rich products and textures.

The main key of COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum is peptides. Each peptide in this product has a different property. sh-Polypeptide-121 boosts collagen, Copper Tripeptide-1 changes texture, Dipeptide Diaminobutyroyl Benzylamide Diacetate is supposed to help with sebum and pore care. Oligopeptide-68 brightens the skin, Palmitoyl Tripeptide-8 has soothing properties and Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is a firming ingredient. I have to admit that my skin reacts quite well to niacinamide in this booster which is something I didn't expect.

COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum

Cosrx recommends using this product as a second step, right after cleansing and before moisturizer and sunscreen.

I won't tell you that this product changed my skin, but it's a product I would recommend for mature skin or if you're 25+ and you want to take the first steps in taking care of your skin. COSRX The 6 Peptide Skin Booster Serum has such a name because this product is supposed to boost active ingredients in serums and creams you use after booster serum. That's something I can't test, but so far I don't see facial hair growing faster, and that's something I usually deal with when I see Copper Tripeptide-1 in product. The texture is more like essence which makes it super hydrating, but at the same time, it absorbs quickly. It doesn't leave any sticky film on the surface of the skin. It kinda reminds me of rich essences in sheet masks or essences in toner pads.
