Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++

Do you like Cica? Who doesn't? Mary&May is a Kbeauty brand which decided to combine three important elements - Centella Asiatica, sustainability and suncare. Meet Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ - a sunscreen which I'm sure you will love, and a brand which you might not know yet.

I've been testing lots of sunscreens this year. I'm living quite a stressful life mixing studies and a few jobs. I'm not even joking, while creating this post I had to do a graphic project for one Facebook group. Mary&May was on my wishlist for a while since I read many positive reviews about this brand, and thanks to OhMyBeloved I was able to test for you Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++.

About Mary&May

Mary&May is a Kbeauty brand, the motto of this brand is "believe in truth". So what's the truth that Mary&May is talking about? Mary&May is a skincare brand focused on good ingredients and raw materials. The brand is clear - combines the best raw materials with technology to provide effective products. All Mary&May products are cruelty-free, and the majority or even all products are Vegan-friendly. The brand tries to be transparent and eco-friendly, and Mary&May encourages us to choose smarter and healthier. Usually, patents remind us of big brands and conglomerates. Mary&May has its own patented ingredient DSC™ which stands for Derma Soothing Complex. It's a combination of houttuynia cordata and tea tree extract.

In general, while many brands forgot houttuynia cordata, I'm glad Mary&May keeps promoting this herb since I was strongly sure that after Centella Asiatica, Houttuynia Cordata is going to be an "it" herb in skincare, but somehow people were more interested in Artemisia and Mugwort. We won't find Houttuynia in Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++, but I can reassure you - it's not the last time you see Mary&May on Kherblog.

Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ - Packaging

Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ comes in a paper box. The box is made out of recycled paper. Mary&May thought about everything that's why the brand is using eco-friendly soybean oil ink. That's something you would expect from an eco-friendly brand that wants to focus on sustainability. The tube is plastic, but easy to use. The PAO date of this sunscreen is 12 months, but I always advise using sunscreen within 6 months. The bottle of Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ contains 50ml of the product.

Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ - Texture & Scent

It has a delicate scent which in my opinion is very positive - it has a subtle, herbal hint. The texture is like white milk, and it doesn't leave a white cast on the skin.

Water hides in a cosmetic product under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Dibutyl Adipate is an oily emollient. This oil-soluble ingredient dissolves in oils. It creates a hydrating film on the surface of the skin to prevent the skin from dehydration. You can meet it in sunscreens as a solvent. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative for propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate or Uvinul A Plus is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVA range (320-400 nm), and its peak of protection is 354 nm. Polymethylsilsesquioxane is a silicone that protects your skin from dehydration by creating a film on the surface of the skin. Silicones have a positive meaning to your skin - they make products easier to spread, make the formula more elegant or even protect skin and hair. Ethylhexyl Triazone or Uvinul T 150 is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVB range (280-320nm). Its peak is at 314 nm. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. It helps with problems like wrinkles, acne, skin texture, and enlarged pores and promotes collagen synthesis. Niacinamide makes the skin barrier stronger. It might be handy in cellulite treatments. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Methylene Bis-Benzotriazolyl Tetramethylbutylphenol sounds a bit like a magic spell. You might know it as a Tinosorb M - a new generation of sun-protecting agents. Tinosorb M is a broad-spectrum filter since it covers UVA and UVB wavelengths (280-400nm). It's a so-called hybrid sunscreen agent because it's between mineral and chemical sunscreen agents. It might leave some white cast. Coco-Caprylate/Caprate is an oily emollient derived from coconut. Some people call this amazing emollient, a "natural silicone". It leaves a silky, moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Caprylyl Methicone is an alkylmethyl silicone and emollient. It has a waxy texture, and it makes the product easier to apply. It works great with natural ingredients and pigment. It's a volatile silicone so you don't have to worry - it disappears almost right after application.

Diethylhexyl Butamido Triazone is another hard name, but you can also call it Uvasorb HEB. It protects the skin from UVB and UVA II radiation ( it doesn't cover UVA I wavelength range). It's a photostable ingredient used in water-resistant formulas. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Centella Asiatica Root Extract is an extract obtained from the root of Centella Asiatica. One of the most admired ingredients in skincare lately. Centella Asiatica comes under many names - Tiger Grass, Gotu Kola or Asiatic Pennyworth. Centella has many positive skin properties like a speeding-up healing process and anti-inflammatory properties. It's an ingredient worth a try. Centella Asiatica Extract is probably the most popular extract in skincare. It comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This extract is successful because it's a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Centella Asiatica Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It speeds up the wound healing process. You can use it to treat acne since it has soothing and antibacterial properties. It boosts fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin or even helps with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Centella is recommended for rosacea and cellulitis since it helps with blood microcirculation. In hair care, Centella can help with hair growth. Sodium Hyaluronate or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate combined with elastin and collagen is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. Behenyl Alcohol might sound scary, but it's a fatty alcohol. This type of alcohol is positive for the skin since it works as an emollient. It helps with the texture of the product. Poly C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate is a polymer. Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate is an emulsifier, suitable for vegans. Decyl Glucoside is a non-ionic surfactant that works as an emulsifier and thickener. Tromethamine is a synethtic pH adjuster. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener. Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is an oil-in-water emulsifier. Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a synthetic polymer and quite a large molecule. It works as a thickener and emulsion stabiliser. Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6 is a thickener, it helps create elegant, non-sticky formulas.

Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Adenosine naturally occurs in the skin. One of the adenosine's roles in our bodies is being a neurotransmitter. In skin care, we use adenosine for its anti-wrinkle properties. Adenosine is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can boost collagen production. At the same time, it speeds up the healing process. Adenosine can have positive effects on reducing redness. In hair care, adenosine can help with hair loss. Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. Saccharomyces Ferment is a product of Saccharomyces fermentation. It's a source of many amino acids and beta-glucan. This ingredient helps with the moisture of the skin. t-Butyl Alcohol is a solvent with a scent similar to camphor. It's common in perfumes. Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Asiaticoside is one of the terpenoids found in Centella Asiatica. It's a substance with antioxidant properties. This terpenoid can improve your skin by speeding up the wound healing process. It can also help with wrinkles and boost collagen production. Madecassoside is a bioactive part of Centella Asiatica. It's an antioxidant and can stimulate collagen and elastin synthesis to promote wound healing. It has soothing effects, and it might have anti-aging properties if we combine it with vitamin C. Betaine is an amino acid. In skincare products, we use it for its moisturizing properties. Betaine keeps the water balance of the skin. It e wrinkles appear less visible, and it soothes irritated skin. In hair care, betaine doesn't only moisturize the hair. It makes hair soft and shiny. Betaine in cosmetics usually comes from sweet beetroots. It naturally occurs in the skin and hair. Inositol is a substance called "Vitamin B8", I want to make you aware that it's incorrect since inositol can be synthesised in the human body. Vitamins are not synthesised in the human body, but inositol is since it's not a vitamin. It has hydrating properties, and it's a key to healthy hair! Madecassic Acid is a bioactive part of Centella Asiatica. It's an antioxidant with calming properties. It can help with sensitive skin and wounds by speeding up the healing process. Asiatic Acid is a terpenoid found in Centella Asiatica. This ingredient stimulates collagen production and wound healing. It has soothing properties, but it's also an antioxidant. Fragrance (Parfum) is a scent composition. It can cause allergic reactions.

How does Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ work?

I have to admit, I didn't know that Mary&May released Sun Cream. I knew Mary&May from ampoules since some of the ampoules were on my wishlist. We all love Centella, that's why I ended up adding Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ to my routine first. Lately, I've tried other amazing sunscreens with Centella, but somehow Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ is better than my expectation. Is this my new favourite sunscreen?

Let's start from the basics, Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ contains 10,000 ppm F-Cica complex, a combination of Cica ingredients and Saccharomyces Ferment. This complex is amazing for sensitive skin since its major task is to calm your skin. I have to admit, I'm surprised how Mary&May created such an elegant texture. Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ mixes calming ingredients and hydrating ingredients with sunscreen agents. The sunscreen doesn't leave a white cast, and it doesn't make your skin shiny. It actually can work as a makeup base! I tried cushion which usually gets super oily in a short amount of time, and guesses what? It lasted longer! Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ has no alcohol in its ingredients which in my opinion is a benefit. Still, remember to reapply your sunscreen regularly every 2-3 hours.

It's good to add that Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ is vegan-friendly and cruelty-free. The brand claims that the formula is washable which means that Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ can be removed with just cleansing foam. Usually, you need an oil cleanser to remove sunscreen and then follow with cleansing foam. Overall, I'm aware this review is quite short, but I guess I need to change my top 3 into top 4 or 5 sunscreens this year since Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ beats many popular sunscreens.

Where to buy Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++, and what's the price?

Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ costs $28.50/50ml, but you can get it on OhMyBeloved* for $18. OhMyBeloved* has free express shipping for purchases over $50 and believes me - the shipping is super quick! Right now the shipping at many Korean stores might be a bit delayed due to the upcoming Chuseok.

To sum up, Mary&May Cica Soothing Sun Cream SPF50+ PA++++ is an interesting sunscreen which many people with sensitive, and oily-prone skin will enjoy.
