Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum and Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++

Did I just find the best Kbeauty sunscreen of 2023? It's just the beginning of the season and I already found an ideal sunscreen for my skin. Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ is a vegan, cruelty-free sunscreen with an ideal texture for oily skin. In combination with Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum, it's a powerful duo which you need in your skincare routine!

What's UV?

UV stands for Ultraviolet, it's nothing else than the selected range of frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum. UV rays are not visible to humans but it doesn't mean that they don't exist. Each type of UV - UVA, UVB and UVC has different wavelengths and different properties.

UVA, UVB and UVC - what does each of them do and where you can meet them?

I'm sure you know about UVA and UVB but UVC or the difference between UVA2 and UVA1? Let's start from the shortest wavelengths - UVC (100nm - 280nm) exist in space and it's absorbed by the ozone layer, it can kill bacteria that's why on Earth you can find it in germicidal lamps - you might ask me, but these lamps are usually visible to a human - it's because they are made in a way that makes them safe for you and other people - you shouldn't enter the room when the UV lamp is on and make people aware that the lamp is on we add other substances so the lamp has a blue/purple colour when it's on. This technology is used for example at labs and hospitals. We all remember UVB (280nm –315nm) because it is told that B in UVB stands for BURN. Indeed, this UV length is responsible for sunburns, but it also helps with the synthesis of Vitamin D - a vitamin which we all need because lack of it can lead to osteoporosis. UVB is focused on the epidermis aka the outer layer of the skin while UVA (315nm –400nm) can penetrate through the epidermis and dermis so it penetrates your skin deeper. A in its name stands for Aging. The bad news is that UVA can penetrate glass, and both UVA and UVB make lots of damage including skin cancer and oxidative stress.

Should I wear sunscreen at home?

We already know that UVA penetrates through the glass so do we need to use sunscreen at home? Yes, especially if you spend lots of time working near the window then it's better to put on a layer of sunscreen in the morning and have any type of protection at home as well. But you can also use window films to reduce the risk. The choice is left to you, what I do is keep my blinds on the window during the entire morning and when the sun is not that intense because my windows are situated on the Eastern side the light usually starts to fade afternoon - usually by afternoon I already have sunscreen on, few times reapplied.

What's the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?

It depends on which side we look at this topic. Mineral sunscreens are sunscreens that don't contain any carbon atoms - this automatically makes them inorganic sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens contain carbon atoms, which makes them organic substances. The main difference is that mineral sunscreen usually leaves a white cast, and it's better if we use both Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide for a broad spectrum of UV protection. Chemical sunscreens don't leave a white cast, and they have more sophisticated formulas. Both are amazing, in some cases, PIH (hyperpigmentation), mineral sunscreens, and natural pigments can make a good layer of protection from UV rays.

Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum - Packaging

I love how this packaging has this rose pink shade and gold elements. The paper box seems to be recycled, and the brand used soy ink to produce it. Inside you can see a plastic bottle. For me, it's better than a glass one since I travel with this mist serum.

Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Extract is a source of tannic acid, gallic acid, kaempferol, quercetin, quercitrin, ellagic acid, polyphenols, catechins and hamamelitannin. It's a soothing antioxidant that helps with blemishes, redness and telangiectasias (these small, visible red spider veins on the skin). Tremella Fuciformis (Mushroom) Extract or Silver Ear mushroom extract is a polysaccharide and moisturizing antioxidant. It's a source of glucaronic acid and it has some anti-inflammatory properties. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps with the penetration of active ingredients, protects products from drying and moisturizes skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and make your hair stronger. Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil is an emollient and a source of vitamin E. The structure of jojoba oil is very similar to human sebum, that's why all skin types shouldn't be scared of this oil. It creates a delicate, non-oily film barrier on the surface of the skin. It helps to restore your hydrolipid barrier. Jojoba oil can be applied straight onto the skin. In hair care, jojoba oil makes hair stronger and hydrated. PS. Jojoba oil isn't an oil, but a waxy ester. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Its origin can be natural or synthetic - depending on the product. It protects TEWL (transepidermal water loss) and naturally occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs - natural moisturizing factors. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it just the opposite - it protects your skin from irritation. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. It helps with problems like wrinkles, acne, skin texture, and enlarged pores and promotes collagen synthesis. Niacinamide makes the skin barrier stronger. It might be handy in cellulite treatments. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is a combination of coconut oil and glycerin. It's a notable emollient, quite common in skincare. It leaves a protective film on the surface of the epidermis to save your cutis from dehydration. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride has a significant role in skin care products - it makes the application process effortless. Some people might experience pore-clogging after using Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride but pore-clogging and skin reactions to ingredients are individual. What works for you might not work for someone else. Sodium Hyaluronate or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate combined with elastin and collagen is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying. Melaleuca Alternifolia (Tea Tree) Extract or Tea Tree Leaf Extract is an ingredient with antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. Glyceryl Glucoside is a humectant. Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Panthenol is also known as vitamin B5, and it helps with inflammation. Panthenol can soothe the skin irritated by preservatives, scent ingredients, and chemical sunscreens - it might have a meaning for lipids in our skin and skin barrier. It speeds up the healing process. It's good to use it after sunbathing. In hair care, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. If you have problems detangling your hair or hair growth go for Panthenol. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. You can see it in products for atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. Portulaca Oleracea Extract is a source of polysaccharides, flavonoids, betaxanthins, betacyanins and glutathione. It's one of the plants used in Korean traditional medicine, but in skincare, this antioxidant has soothing and anti-inflammatory properties.

Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum and Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++

Centella Asiatica Extract is probably the most popular extract in skincare. It comes under a few names - Asiatic pennywort, tiger grass or Gotu kola. Centella Asiatica's roots are in Ayurveda. This extract is successful because it's a source of triterpene saponins - madecassoside and asiaticoside. Centella Asiatica Extract has anti-inflammatory properties. It speeds up the wound-healing process. You can use it to treat acne since it has soothing and antibacterial properties. It boosts fibroblasts to produce collagen and elastin or even helps with hyaluronic acid synthesis. Centella is recommended for rosacea and cellulitis since it helps with blood microcirculation. In hair care, Centella can help with hair growth. Beta-glucan is a polysaccharide. It can come from yeast, seaweed or fungi. It's one of the best humectants with soothing properties. It might help with reducing wrinkle visibility on the epidermis. Some sources say it might be an antioxidant. It's good to mix it with niacinamide and retinoids or use it after skincare treatments to heal the skin more quickly. Beta-glucan leaves a film on the skin to prevent TEWL and lock the moisture inside the skin. Polyglutamic Acid is a polymer with high moisturizing properties. Since it's a big molecule that naturally occurs in fermented soy, it leaves a film on the skin. Sorbitan Sesquioleate is a water-in-oil emulsifier. Polyglyceryl-10 Laurate is an emulsifier. Adenosine naturally occurs in the skin. One of the adenosine's roles in our bodies is being a neurotransmitter. In skin care, we use adenosine for its anti-wrinkle properties. Adenosine is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can boost collagen production. At the same time, it speeds up the healing process. Adenosine can have positive effects on reducing redness. In hair care, adenosine can help with hair loss. Houttuynia Cordata Extract is an ingredient which some people with acne-prone skin love while for me, my experience was not bad but still all hail Centella! Houttuynia Cordata is a plant, which we still use in Traditional Chinese and Japanese Medicine, it's also known as Heart Leaf or Chinese lizard tail. Funny fact about Houttuynia - it's also called Fish Wort, Fish Leaf, etc. because it's an edible plant and it usually leaves a fishy aftertaste. I eat fish a lot, but I'm not a fan of the fishy taste of low-quality matcha (yep, I'm a tea & fish snob) so I don't think I would enjoy it, I'll stay with enjoying Houttuynia magic in skincare. Houttuynia is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It's also a source of quercetin, quercitrin, rutin and hyperin. If your skin is sensitive, you might love it! It speeds up wound healing properties, and it might help with capillaries. Chrysanthellum Indicum (Golden Chamomile) Extract is a source of flavonoids and carotenoids. It's an antioxidant with a soothing effect. It helps with redness. Brassica Oleracea Italica (Broccoli) Extract is an astringent. Broccoli is a source of vitamin C. People believe that this extract can have brightening properties. Allantoin is an ingredient that naturally occurs in our bodies, but brands usually go for the synthetic form of this substance. It comes from comfrey or soybean roots. It's a humectant with soothing and wound-healing properties. Disodium EDTA neutralizes metal ions in the formula to keep products fresh. Tripeptide-29 is a synthetic peptide that improves skin texture and helps with wrinkles. Copper Tripeptide-1 is a peptide created with three amino acids: glycine, histidine and lysine + copper. It boosts collagen and elastin production. It's super useful in wound healing - especially for acne-prone skin. Copper Tripeptide-1 is an antioxidant that stimulates hair growth and prevents hair loss. Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 boosts collagen, elastin and HA synthesis. Hexapeptide-9 stimulates the synthesis of collagen types I and III. It helps with wrinkles. Nonapeptide-1 is a biomimetic oligopeptide. It's a tyrosinase inhibitor which makes it a great ingredient to fight hyperpigmentation.

Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum

Tetrapeptide-44 is an anti-inflammatory peptide. Lecithin is an emollient and oil-in-water emulsifier, but it has other use in skin care - you can use it to encapsulate active ingredients in liposomes. Encapsulation of active ingredients makes it easier to deliver them to the deeper layers of your skin. It boosts your lipid barrier and makes it stronger. Acetyl Glutamine is an anti-aging moisturizer. sh-Oligopeptide-1 or Epidermal Growth Factor stimulates cell growth and boosts healing properties. sh-Oligopeptide-2 or Insulin-Like Growth Factor 1 is a big growth factor that stimulates wound healing. sh-Polypeptide-1 or Basic Fibroblast Growth Factor boosts the growth and proliferation (rapid reproduction) of fibroblasts as well as stimulates collagen synthesis. sh-Polypeptide-9 or Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor stimulates blood vessels. It speeds up the wound-healing process. sh-Polypeptide-11 or Acidic Fibroblast Growth Factor is a signal molecule. It boosts the growth and proliferation (rapid reproduction) of fibroblasts. It stimulates collagen and elastin synthesis and speeds up the wound-healing process. Caprylyl Glycol is an oily emollient and humectant. It leaves a moisturizing film on the surface of the skin. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 is a synthetic peptide (sometimes called neuropeptide or biomimetic peptide). Lots of brands and media did a great job marketing this substance. That's why you can spot it with names such as Botox-like peptides or treatments. It won't give you the same effects as Botox, but there are some similarities. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 can help with wrinkles by decreasing the visibility of wrinkles and fine lines created by repetitive movements of muscles. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 inhibits SNARE complex and catecholamine release. It can stimulate collagen synthesis, and it has powerful, water-binding properties. That's why acetyl hexapeptide-8 might increase the moisture of the skin. It's better to use this peptide near the eye area to prevent fine lines in the eye area. Unless you have drooping eyelids, then the use of acetyl hexapeptide-8 is not recommended for you. If you have muscle problems, it's better to consult with your doctor or PT first, before adding acetyl hexapeptide-8 to your routine. Acetyl Hexapeptide-8 can hide under the name Argireline or Acetyl Hexapeptide-3. Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate or SAP is an antioxidant and a water-soluble form of Vitamin C. SAP is more stable than ascorbic acid, but its penetration skills are weaker. It stimulates collagen (type I and III) and elastin production. It helps with pigmentation - both PIE & PIH, but this one does also a great job with acne due to its antimicrobial properties. It is better to use vitamin C during the morning routine because it boosts the efficiency of sunscreen. It's good to mix it with ferulic acid and vitamin E. Vitamin C has a cardinal role in strengthening the blood vessels and boosting wound healing. This form of Vitamin C is recommended during pregnancy. Chlorphenesin is a synthetic ingredient used as a preservative in cosmetics. Fragrance (Parfum) is a scent composition. It can cause allergic reactions.

How does Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum work?

Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum contains 12 types of peptides and it's made out of essence in 98%. It's supposed to have strong anti-aging properties to make you look 7 years younger. I'm not a fan of claims like this since they might give you some unrealistic expectations. Although, Hamel says that this serum mist can help with skin moisture in just 48 hours. This one I could believe because when I started to use Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum I had to travel to my university and usually my trips ends up with my lips and skin dehydrated.

Honestly, it's a good double phase, gentle mist with fine texture. It has almost no scent which is a benefit in my opinion. If you use facial mists then I believe this one is worth a try.

Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ - Packaging

The paper box is very similar to Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum, but the shape of Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ does the entire job - it looks like an egg. It's a white egg that fits easily into my hand and bag. The applicator is working well.

Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ - Texture & Scent

Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ has a gel-like texture in a pink shade, the scent doesn't remind me of anything specific, but I'm not a fan of it.

Water hides in cosmetic products under names such as Aqua or Eau. It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. Water in skin care needs to fit some standards. It should be clean and free from minerals, microorganisms or other substances. Usually, water makes up the majority of the content of the product. Dibutyl Adipate is an oily emollient. This oil-soluble ingredient dissolves in oils. It creates a hydrating film on the surface of the skin to prevent the skin from dehydration. You can meet it in sunscreens as a solvent. Propanediol is also known as natural glycol - an alternative to propylene glycol. Propanediol is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties. It makes the product smooth to the touch. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. Ethylhexyl Triazone or Uvinul T 150 is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVB range (280-320nm). Its peak is at 314 nm. Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid is a long name, that's why you probably know this ingredient as Mexoryl SX or ecamsule. Mexoryl SX was patented in 1982 by L'oreal so when we talk about other brands we stick to the name Ecamsule. This sunscreen protects your skin from UVA radiation (315–400 nm) and it has its peak at 345nm. It's a chemical sunscreen with high stability. Polyglyceryl-3 Stearate is a non-ionic surfactant and oily emollient. Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3 - a vitamin soluble in water. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid or Retinol. Tromethamine is a synthetic pH adjuster. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative - it protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin, and it has no unpleasant effects on your epidermis. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate or Uvinul A Plus is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVA range (320-400 nm), and its peak of protection is 354 nm. Polysilicone-15 might sound like a normal ingredient, but the other name of this ingredient is Parsol SLX. You're right! It's a sun-protecting ingredient. It protects your skin from UVB radiation (290-320 nm) and its peak is around 310 nm. It makes a great pair with Avobenzone. It's quite common in hair care products. Coccinia Indica (Ivy Gourd) Fruit Extract might moisturize skin & hair and make them soft. Eclipta Prostrata (False Daisy) Extract is a source of vitamin C, flavonoids, triterpenes or phytosterol. False Daisy is a typical herb for Ayurveda. In skin care, this ingredient has anti-aging properties and it's an antioxidant. In hair care, it helps with hair growth and regeneration. Camellia Japonica Flower Extract is an antioxidant. Camellia Japonica has a long history of use in beauty. It's a source of gallic acid, superoxide dismutase and Camellioside A - a triterpenoid. It has anti-inflammatory and anti-aging properties.

Hamel Double Shot 12GF Core Glow Mist Serum and Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++

Moringa Oleifera Seed Extract is a source of vitamins C, E, methionine, and beta-carotene. It's an antioxidant with anti-aging properties. Hedychium Coronarium (White Ginger) Root Extract is a plant typical for Birma or India. This ingredient has anti-inflammatory properties. It might be useful in fighting UV-induced damage. Glyceryl Stearate is an emollient with emulsifying properties. Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is quite a hard name to remember, that's why you can find people talking about this ingredient by calling it Tinosorb S. It's one of the newer types of sunscreen agents and one of the strongest ones. It's a chemical sunscreen that protects skin from UVA (315-400 nm) & UVB (280-315 nm), and its peak is high. It's a stable sunscreen that works with other sun-protecting substances to protect their early photodegradation. Cetearyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol. In the beauty industry, it's an emollient. Many people associate alcohol with something awful for the epidermis, but not every alcohol is nasty. Cetearyl alcohol leaves a moisturizing film on the skin to prevent your skin from transepidermal water loss (TEWL). We use Cetearyl alcohol to create an emulsion. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener. Ammonium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate/VP Copolymer is a polymer with thickening properties. Glyceryl Stearate Citrate is a water-in-oil emulsifier. Inulin Lauryl Carbamate is an emulsifier. Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is an oil-in-water emulsifier. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Methylpropanediol is a solvent with antimicrobial properties. Polyether-1 is a thickener. Maltodextrin is a stabilizing ingredient that can hydrate your skin and absorb sebum. It has antistatic properties which makes it an ideal ingredient for your hair. Aquaxyl is a mix of three ingredients Xylitylglucoside, Anhydroxylitol and Xylitol. This complex boosts skin hydration. Biosaccharide Gum-1 is a product of sorbitol fermentation. It's a polysaccharide - nothing else than sugar, and sugar in skincare usually has moisturizing properties. Biosaccharide Gum-1 has also calming and soothing properties. You might want to use it with hyaluronic acid for longer and stronger hydration. Glucose is a monosaccharide - a simple sugar, and we all know that sugars in skincare are nothing else than humectants.

Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++

How does Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ work?

I didn't know Hamel before so I had no expectations towards Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++. I have no idea what's the PPD of this sunscreen. The texture is very light, and it reminds me of a lightweight cream or even serum. It's a formula that reminds me of gel which you can't feel at all under makeup. If you moisturize your skin well then this product locks the moisture by leaving a super delicate film.

It works perfectly with makeup, it doesn't make my eyes cry which is a huge benefit for me, but if it comes to reapplication - it might mess up your makeup a bit, still it works better than many other sunscreens for reapplication. I mentioned that this sunscreen needs a moisturizer because if you use it on dry skin type without putting moisturizer first it might cause you some dryness, but if you use moisturizer and then follow with Hamel Vegan Aqua Glow Sun Serum SPF50+ PA++++ and makeup - the skin won't get dehydrated and foundation will stay in place longer than with more creamy sunscreens.

For me, it's an ideal sunscreen to wear with makeup - if you have an important occasion or you want your makeup to stay fresh a bit longer.
