Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum

As temperatures drop, your skin may need more moisture. Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum provides balanced hydration without harsh colorants or scents. What's so unique about this product and why right now it's the best time to buy it?

Disclaimer: this post was sponsored by Skingineered, but it still shows my personal opinion on the product.

About Skingineered

Skingineered is a German skincare brand created by Ying Hösl, who is the brain behind the brand. It’s not that common to see people who know the beauty market and cosmetic science leading the company, but Ying did it! She's a process engineer with a diploma in cosmetic science. Skingineered is a brand that introduces clients to the cosmetic chemistry behind each product without the whole batch of misleading marketing. Instead of misleading claims, the brand shows effectiveness and science behind the product in a simple but effective way. Skingineered is still a fresh brand, and while publishing this review, the brand had only two products: UVA Booster and Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum.

Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum

Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum - Packaging

Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum is packed in a container made of polypropylene. Same as UVA Booster. You can find information that it’s PP 05, which means that it’s recyclable, and it’s the safest packaging. Lots of brands are using this type of material to pack food in it.

There’s no additional paper box, but Skingineered packs products in paper boxes and takes care to make each package eco-friendly.

Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum - Texture & Scent

The good thing about Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum is that this product is free from scent and artificial colourants. The texture is like a lightweight white cream that quickly soaks into your skin. It leaves no cast, it isn’t sticky, and it works well with makeup.

Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum - Ingredients

Aqua, Pentylene Glycol, Glycerin, Isosorbide Dicaprylate, Calcium Carbonate, Dimethicone, Hydroxyapatite, Allantoin, Centella Asiatica Callus Conditioned Media, Sclerotium Gum, Xanthan Gum, Beta-Glucan, Acacia Senegal Gum, Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Dimethiconol, Sodium PCA, Butylene Glycol, Sodium Polyaspartate, Superoxide Dismutase, Betaine, Zinc PCA, Sodium Citrate, Arginine, Citric Acid, Maltodextrin, Serine, Lysine HCl, Glutamic Acid

Water is typically listed in cosmetic products under names such as "Aqua" or "Eau". It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. In skin care products, water must meet specific purity standards, ensuring it is clean and free from impurities, including minerals, microorganisms, and other substances. Water usually makes up the majority of the product's content. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties.

Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Depending on the product, its origin can be natural or synthetic. It protects against TEWL (transepidermal water loss), a natural process that occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs and a natural moisturizing factor. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it—just the opposite—it protects your skin from irritation. Isosorbide Dicaprylate is an emollient.

Calcium Carbonate is absorbent. Calcium Carbonate combined with Hydroxyapatite makes Tinomax™ CC, a complex that enhances the sensory value of the texture. It also boosts the UV protection of the product. Dimethicone is a silicone and polymer. Allantoin is an ingredient that naturally occurs in the human body, but brands typically use the synthetic form of this substance. It is derived from comfrey or soybean roots and serves as a humectant with soothing and wound-healing properties.

Centella Asiatica Callus Conditioned Media is a good example of the use of stem cells in skincare. It's an ingredient rich in fitopeptides, it can reduce redness. It's also an antioxidant. Sclerotium Gum is a polysaccharide obtained during the fermentation of Sclerotium rolfsii. It works as a thickener in skin care products, and it prevents transepidermal water loss (TEWL).

Xanthan Gum is a polysaccharide that works as a thickener. Beta-glucan is a polysaccharide that can come from yeast, seaweed, or fungi. It's one of the best humectants with soothing properties. It might help reduce wrinkle visibility on the epidermis. Some sources say it might be an antioxidant. Mix it with niacinamide and retinoids, or use it after skincare treatments to help the skin heal quickly. Beta-glucan leaves a film on the skin to prevent TEWL and lock the moisture inside the skin.

Acacia Senegal Gum or Gum Arabic is a natural polymer. It works as a thickener. Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is an oil-in-water emulsifier. Dimethiconol is a silicone polymer. It works as an emollient and moisturizer. Dimethiconol leaves a film on the skin, which makes your skin soft. In hair care, this ingredient is amazing for damaged hair since it makes them more smooth. Sodium PCA is a humectant.

Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps the active ingredients penetrate, protects products from drying, and moisturizes the skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and strengthen hair. Sodium Polyaspartate is a humectant. Superoxide Dismutase is a powerful antioxidant that protects the skin from the damage caused by free radicals.

Betaine is an amino acid. We use it in skincare products for its moisturizing properties. Betaine keeps the water balance of the skin. It makes wrinkles appear less visible, and it soothes irritated skin. In hair care, betaine not only moisturizes the hair. It makes hair soft and shiny. Betaine in cosmetics usually comes from sweet beets. It naturally occurs in the skin and hair. Zinc PCA might remind you of Zinc Oxide, but it's a mix of zinc and pyrrolidone carboxylic acid. This duo moderates sebum production and fights acne. Zinc PCA also has positive effects on scalp problems.

Sodium Citrate neutralises metal ions, but it also adjusts the pH. Arginine is an amino acid. It helps with protein biosynthesis in adults. According to research from 1964, a lack of arginine might raise your chances of getting an HSV infection. Citric acid is an AHA (alpha hydroxy acid), a delicate exfoliant and buffering ingredient that adjusts the pH of the formula. Maltodextrin is a stabilizing ingredient that can hydrate your skin and absorb sebum.

Serine is an amino acid and one of the substances in natural moisturizing factor (NMF). It's a humectant with anti-aging properties. In hair care, it has antistatic properties. Lysine HCl is an amino acid salt. It stimulates hair growth and adds moisture to hair and skin. It has anti-static properties, and it helps with wrinkles, too. Glutamic Acid is an amino acid that naturally occurs in the human body. It's a humectant that helps with the right pH of the skin.

Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum

How does Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum?

It’s been a while since I’ve tried such a creamy serum. To be honest, at first I was a bit worried that it might be too heavy since my skin is oily, but I quickly found out that Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum is probably the most universal skincare product I’ve tried for a long time.

The reason is simple - it’s focused on antioxidant activity and moisture. I feel like it’s the first product in ages that’s focused on Superoxide Dismutase. I barely ever see brands using this antioxidant, even though I was taught at the university that this is one of the most interesting antioxidants. There are a few innovative ingredients like Tinomax™ CC, which goes well with UVA Booster. I’ve tested UVA Booster before, you can read the review on Kherblog.

I have to admit that during autumn, when I don’t have regular hand cream in my stash, I usually end up using Skingineered Serum. The reason is simple - I take this product with me everywhere, just in case I can take some cool shots for the brand. I have to admit, a few times this habit of taking products with me everywhere saved me. It’s the best habit to have during the summer.

I’m very picky about what I put on my hands, more than with my face, so if I use Skingineered Hydrology: Moisturizing Morning Serum on both, then this texture must be comfortable for the skin. It’s lightweight, and it reminds me a bit of milk. It has no scent at all, and the whole formula feels hydrating, but it doesn’t leave any oily residue. Still, it leaves my skin hydrated for a good few hours.
