Autumn is an ideal time for exfoliation, but if you have sensitive skin, finding a perfect product might be hard. Mamonde created Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask, a delicate exfoliant in the form of a liquid mask. It’s based on 10% Gluconolactone (PHA) and Mamonde’s secret ingredient called Hyper Flora™. Is this exfoliant suitable for your skin?
Meet the brand: Mamonde
Mamonde is a South Korean skincare brand from the same family as Laneige, Sulwhasoo, IOPE, Innisfree, and Etude House. To make it simple, AmorePacific is the mother company of Mamonde. The name of the brand has a hidden meaning. Part 'ma' means my, while 'monde' stands for the world. Since 1991, Mamonde has made products inspired by petals. A few years ago, Mamonde's Instagram and website were full of floral photos, which for me are a huge inspiration. Something I love about Korean brands is how well they can design the interior of their shops. Mamonde didn't disappoint me. The shop aesthetic is as important as branding. Both were related to flowers. In 2023, Mamonde went through a rebranding. The brand currently follows trends, and I feel like the main targets of this brand are Gen Z and Gen Alpha.
Previously, Park Shin Hye, a South Korean actress known from dramas such as Doctors, The Heirs, and Memories Of The Alhambra, was an ambassador of Mamonde. Winter from the K-pop girl group Aespa is a current muse of the brand.
Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask - Packaging
Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask comes in a pink box with blue details. What I love about this product is that on the packaging, you can find Braille, which is still not a common practice. There is also information about the product, including information about certificates.
The bottle of Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask has a pink-blue cap. The entire bottle is made out of some kind of Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE). It’s soft to the touch, and you can delicately squeeze it. Once you open the bottle, you can see the tip that makes the application process of Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask easier.
Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask - Texture & Scent
Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask is a liquid product that might have a bit of oiliness in the feeling, but it isn’t oily at all. The scent of this product is like rose, but it’s not an annoying scent. I don’t feel it once I apply the product to the skin.
Is Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask vegan-friendly?
Yes, Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask is certified by the Korea Agency of Vegan Certification and Services, so it is vegan-friendly.
Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask - Ingredients
Water, Butylene Glycol, Gluconolactone, Glycerin, Dipropylene Glycol, Propanediol, Tromethamine, Panthenol, 1,2-Hexanediol, PPG-13-Decyltetradeceth-24, Polysorbate 80, Ethylhexylglycerin, Sodium Metaphosphate, Dextrin, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract (120 ppm), Sodium Hyaluronate, Hyaluronic Acid, Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (100 ppm), Propylene Glycol, Tocopherol, Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid, Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer, Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate
Water is typically listed in cosmetic products under names such as "Aqua" or "Eau". It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. In skin care products, water must meet specific purity standards, ensuring it is clean and free from impurities, including minerals, microorganisms, and other substances. Water usually makes up the majority of the product's content. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps the active ingredients penetrate, protects products from drying, and moisturises the skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and strengthen hair. Gluconolactone is a poly-hydroxy acid (PHA) and a gentler cousin of AHA. Brands mostly appreciate this ingredient for its subtle exfoliating properties. It's an ideal exfoliant for sensitive skin. Additionally, Gluconolactone has moisturizing properties, and if you use it for longer, you might see differences in wrinkles. There is also information that Gluconolactone might be a potent antioxidant. In hair care, Gluconolactone helps with the scalp and also adds moisture to the hair.
Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Depending on the product, its origin can be natural or synthetic. It protects against TEWL (transepidermal water loss), a natural process that occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs and a natural moisturizing factor. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it—just the opposite—it protects your skin from irritation. Dipropylene Glycol is a solvent with moisturizing properties. Propanediol, also known as natural glycol, is an alternative to propylene glycol. It is a solvent with additional moisturizing properties, making the product smooth. It can even improve the effectiveness of active ingredients. Tromethamine is a synthetic pH adjuster.
Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Panthenol is also known as vitamin B5, and it helps with inflammation. Panthenol can soothe the skin irritated by preservatives, scent ingredients, and chemical sunscreens - it might have a meaning for lipids in our skin and skin barrier. It speeds up the healing process. It's good to use it after sunbathing. In hair care, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. If you have problems detangling your hair or hair growth, go for Panthenol. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. You can see it in products for atopic dermatitis or psoriasis. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative. It protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin and has no unpleasant effects on the epidermis.
PPG-13-Decyltetradeceth-24 is an emulsifier and surfactant. Polysorbate 80 is an oil-in-water emulsifier. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties. Sodium Metaphosphate regulates the pH of the product. Dextrin is a stabilizing emulsifier. Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract is a source of polyphenols and caffeine. It's an antioxidant that improves blood circulation. Rosa Damascena Flower Extract (120 ppm) is an extract derived from the damask rose. It masks the scent, but this ingredient is also used to treat wrinkles and dull skin. This ingredient can be sensitizing.
Sodium Hyaluronate, or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate, combined with elastin and collagen, is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying. Hyaluronic Acid is an ingredient loved by everyone! Hyaluronic acid naturally occurs in the skin. It's a glycosaminoglycan or GAG. What does that mean? It's a long polysaccharide - nothing but sugar, and we all know what sugars do in the skin. It's not different from Hyaluronic Acid - it acts like a humectant. One HA molecule is supposed to hold up to 1000 heavier molecules than this single HA molecule. Hyaluronic acid can have different molecular weights - smaller molecules are usually more hydrating than bigger ones.
Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein (100 ppm) or HVP is a protein obtained from corn, soy, rice, or wheat. It's a moisturizing ingredient that creates a film on the surface of the skin. It has antistatic properties, which make it an ideal ingredient for your hair. Propylene Glycol is a humectant and solvent. It creates a delicate film on the surface of the skin to prevent TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars.
Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is a low-weight humectant. We have to remember that not every molecule can get through the skin surface, and lower molecular weight HA can penetrate the skin deeper and bring moisture inside the skin. It's a natural polymer that binds water in the skin to prevent TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Sodium Hyaluronate Crosspolymer is related to sodium hyaluronate. It's a good moisturizer. Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate is related to sodium hyaluronate. It boosts moisture in the skin and elasticity. It helps prevent skin from TEWL (transepidermal water loss).
How does Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask work?
It’s not my first time with Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask. In July, I made a review of Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Tinted Sun Serum. I bought it at Olive Young, and usually, when you shop at OY, you can find sets or products with free samples. I got a miniature version of Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask with sun serum, and I started to use it some time ago. By the way, this product took 2 months to get to me, and from what I saw, the Post Offices in my country are just not working correctly (and everyone here knows about it, but we simply can’t do anything about it. Personally, I wish Korean shops would go the same way as YesStyle and ship through alternative services, but I know that the issue might be that China is currently the biggest client for these alternative services).

Anyway, back to Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask. What’s a liquid mask? Do you remember the Blithe Patting Splash Mask? It’s a similar solution, but in Mamonde’s case, it’s an exfoliant. It’s a product that removes dead skin cells and promotes healthy skin. It’s based on 10% PHA (Gluconolactone), and in aesthetic medicine, acids below 10% aren’t really “exfoliating”. We use them to moisturize the skin. Another thing is that formulas above 10% can moisturize the skin, but they can also remove dead skin cells. Some exfoliants need neutralizing solutions or just water, but not Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask. This product you can simply pat or delicately rub your skin with it and leave it, or even put another product on top. It’s not a surprise since products for personal, non-professional use don’t usually have any neutralizing solutions, or nobody mentions that you have to use water.
Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask is a delicate product. If your skin reacts to AHA, you should go for PHA. It’s a product for daily use, but I recommend using it in the evening or during morning routine, but only when you plan to use sunscreen on the top. We usually avoid using acids like PHA during retinol routines, but there’s one tip I’m going to share with you. If you plan to get stronger acid treatment, talk with your esthetician first. You might hear that products like Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask are a great way to prepare your skin for stronger peels.
This product isn’t only about exfoliation. It’s also focused on the moisture of the skin. Similar to Sun Serum, Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask contains Hyper Flora™, which is a solution based on flower-derived ingredients. It's a core for Mamonde's DNA since the brand has worked for over 32 years researching flowers. What I understand is that this solution combines rose peptides and 8 different versions of hyaluronic acid, from high to super low molecules. It seems that these ingredients are encapsulated.
I’m a fan of this solution, and I prefer to use it during my evening routine. It’s easy to apply and it doesn’t sensitize my skin. Mamonde did tests to prove that this product is safe for sensitive skin, but still, every skin is different. I was a bit scared of rose scent, because my skin had some bad experiences with cosmetics based on roses. Thankfully, Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask didn’t do any harm to my skin. The bottle lasts for a long time, and the formula works perfectly under makeup. I didn’t have any issues, even though I’m not a fan of using Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask in the morning. I might not see a big change in pigmentation, but I do see that my skin looks healthier when I use this product.
