Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil

Usually, the hottest season for sunscreens is March and April. Even if lately some new exciting products are being introduced to us, even in January. Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil is the newest sunscreen introduced to the market by Korean skincare brand Haruharu Wonder. It missed the summertime, but we can clearly agree that the brand decided to surprise all customers. Is Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil the best sunscreen released in 2025?

What's UV?

UV stands for Ultraviolet. It's nothing but the selected range of frequencies of the electromagnetic spectrum. UV rays are invisible to humans, but that doesn't mean they don't exist. Each type of UV—UVA, UVB, and UVC—has different wavelengths and properties. UVA, UVB, and UVC - what do each of them do, and where can you meet them?

I'm sure you know about UVA and UVB, but UVC or the difference between UVA2 and UVA1? Let's start from the shortest wavelengths - UVC (100nm - 280nm) exist in space and is absorbed by the ozone layer, it can kill bacteria that's why on Earth you can find it in germicidal lamps - you might ask me, but these lamps are usually visible to a human - it's because they are made in a way that makes them safe for you and other people - you shouldn't enter the room when the UV lamp is on and make people aware that the lamp is on we add other substances so the lamp has a blue/purple colour when it's on. This technology is used, for example, in labs and hospitals.

We all remember UVB (280nm –315nm) because it is said that B in UVB stands for BURN. Indeed, this UV length is responsible for sunburns, but it also helps synthesise Vitamin D - a vitamin which we all need because lack of it can lead to osteoporosis. UVB is focused on the epidermis, aka the outer layer of the skin, while UVA (315nm –400nm) can penetrate through the epidermis and dermis, so it penetrates your skin deeper. A in its name stands for Aging. The bad news is that UVA can penetrate glass, and both UVA and UVB cause lots of damage, including skin cancer and oxidative stress.

Should I wear sunscreen at home?

We already know that UVA penetrates through the glass, so do we need to use sunscreen at home? Yes, especially if you spend lots of time working near the window, then it's better to put on a layer of sunscreen in the morning and have any type of protection at home as well. But you can also use window films to reduce the risk. The choice is left to you. What I do is keep my blinds on the window during the entire morning, and when the sun is not that intense. Because my windows are situated on the Eastern side, the light usually starts to fade in the afternoon. Usually by afternoon, I already have sunscreen on, and I've reapplied a few times.

What's the difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen?

It depends on which side we look at this topic. Mineral sunscreens are sunscreens that don't contain any carbon atoms - this automatically makes them inorganic sunscreens. Chemical sunscreens contain carbon atoms, which makes them organic substances. The main difference is that mineral sunscreen usually leaves a white cast, and it's better if we use both Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide for a broad spectrum of UV protection. Chemical sunscreens don't leave a white cast, and they have more sophisticated formulas. Both are amazing. In some cases, PIH (hyperpigmentation), mineral sunscreens, and natural pigments can make a good layer of protection from UV rays.

Sunscreen reapplication

The majority of brands recommend reapplying sunscreen every 2-3 hours. The reason behind this is simple - we are active, we are sweating, we wear clothes, or we touch our faces. All these things can remove a layer of sunscreen from the skin. We react differently to the same amount of UV radiation - my skin might react badly to 5 minutes of sun without protection, and my skin might need 10 more minutes. That's why, on average, we say that reapplying sunscreen every 2-3 hours is the best.

Meet the brand: Haruharu Wonder

Haruharu Wonder is a Korean Vegan-friendly skincare brand. The brand focuses on healthy beauty and uses natural-derived ingredients, while also prioritizing research and creating safe products. The products created by Haruharu Wonder are cruelty-free, and some of them already have The Vegan Society certification. In the last few years brand also got certified by PETA and EVE Vegan. The brand is also focused on the environment & society. Haruharu is focused on sustainability, and the brand uses 1% of domestic sales to help the Korea Assistance Dog Association.

The brand added braille on the packaging for 1.3 billion people who are visually impaired. This is not a common thing, so far, I have only seen that a few brands do this, and somehow, all of them are Korean. Lately, Haruharu Wonder has released many interesting products that are focused on the skin barrier.

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil - Packaging

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil comes in a simple white box with green details. It might be simple until you get a closer look to see the bamboo details embossed on the paper. It’s a small detail, but it makes a big change. One side of this sunscreen has Braille.

The bottle itself is albo simple, but the applicator seems nice, it doesn’t spit big amounts of the product.

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil - Texture & Scent

The texture of Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil is a big surprise, or is it? Because we already know that Haruharu Wonder can make beautiful textures, but this one got my heart even more. It’s a lightweight white cream that easily melts into the skin. It’s non-greasy, but it leaves a delicate film on the surface of the skin that provides moisture and a luscious glow on the skin. It’s a texture many people will enjoy. Oh and the most important thing, it leaves no white cast and it doesn’t sting my eyes.

It has no scent, and you have to excuse me on that matter because, due to infection, I can’t smell everything as well as before. I do smell that creamy scent and a hint of scent that’s typical for sunscreens, but there are no added scent ingredients.

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil - UV protection

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil has SPF 50+ and PA++++. Sadly, the brand didn’t share more information on this topic, like test results.

Water is typically listed in cosmetic products under names such as "Aqua" or "Eau". It's a solvent, but it's not your regular drinking water. In skin care products, water must meet specific purity standards, ensuring it is clean and free from impurities, including minerals, microorganisms, and other substances that can be detrimental to the skin. Water usually makes up the majority of the product's content. Butyloctyl Salicylate is a solvent commonly used in sunscreens. It stabilizes some sunscreen agents and boosts SPF protection.

Ethylhexyl Triazone or Uvinul T 150 is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVB range (280-320nm). Its peak is at 314 nm. Isononyl Isononanoate is a dry emollient. It prevents skin from dehydration. It has wide use in the beauty industry since it makes product application easier. It helps brush the hair and has anti-static properties. It makes pigments more intense. It leaves a delicate film on the skin and hair.

Dibutyl Adipate is an oily emollient. This oil-soluble ingredient dissolves in oils. It creates a hydrating film on the surface of the skin to prevent the skin from dehydration. You can see it in sunscreens as a solvent. Terephthalylidene Dicamphor Sulfonic Acid is a long name, that's why you probably know this ingredient as Mexoryl SX or ecamsule. Mexoryl SX was patented in 1982 by L'oreal so when we talk about other brands we stick to the name Ecamsule. This sunscreen protects your skin from UVA radiation (315–400 nm) and peaks at 345nm. It's a chemical sunscreen with high stability.

Bis-Ethylhexyloxyphenol Methoxyphenyl Triazine is quite a hard name to remember, that's why you can find people talking about this ingredient by calling it Tinosorb S. It's one of the newer types of sunscreen agents and one of the strongest ones. It's a chemical sunscreen that protects skin from UVA (315-400 nm) & UVB (280-315 nm), and its peak is high. It's a stable sunscreen that works with other sun-protecting substances to protect them from early photodegradation. Glycerin or Glycerol is a humectant. Depending on the product, its origin can be natural or synthetic. It protects against TEWL (transepidermal water loss), a natural process that occurs in the skin. It's one of the NMFs and a natural moisturizing factor. It's practical in hair care. Glycerin won't clog your skin or irritate it—just the opposite—it protects your skin from irritation.

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3, a water-soluble vitamin. It helps with problems like wrinkles, acne, skin texture, and enlarged pores, and promotes collagen synthesis. Niacinamide makes the skin barrier stronger. It might be handy in cellulite treatments. Do you want to fight pigmentation or uneven skin? Try to mix niacinamide with Kojic Acid, Arbutin, Vitamin C, Tranexamic Acid, or Retinol. Caprylyl Methicone is an alkylmethyl silicone and emollient. It has a waxy texture, and it makes the product easier to apply. It works great with natural ingredients and pigment. It's a volatile silicone, so you don't have to worry - it disappeared almost right after application.

Hexyl Laurate is an emollient that makes skin soft. Diisopropyl Sebacate is a common emollient in sunscreens since it helps create a nice formula, it's also common in lip products. 2,3-Butanediol is a humectant, but it can also work as a solvent. Tromethamine is a synthetic pH adjuster. Polyglyceryl-6 Distearate is an emollient, but it's also used as an oil-in-water emulsifier. Silica is a mineral, a natural ingredient. It's popular in makeup and skincare. It can absorb sebum or thicken the texture.

1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative. It protects products from microorganisms by boosting other preservatives. At the same time, it can moisturize the skin and has no unpleasant effects on the epidermis. Pentylene Glycol is mostly a solvent and stabilizer, but it has great moisturizing properties. Diethylamino Hydroxybenzoyl Hexyl Benzoate or Uvinul A Plus is a sun-protecting agent. It covers the UVA range (320-400 nm), and its peak of protection is 354 nm.

Polysilicone-15 might sound like a normal ingredient, but the other name for this ingredient is Parsol SLX. You're right! It's a sun-protecting ingredient. It protects your skin from UVB radiation (290-320 nm), and its peak is around 310 nm. It makes a great pair with Avobenzone. It's quite common in hair care products. Candelilla/Jojoba/Rice Bran Polyglyceryl-3 Esters is an emulsifier.

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil

Panthenol is a humectant. It prevents skin from TEWL (Transepidermal Water Loss). Panthenol is also known as vitamin B5, and it helps with inflammation. Panthenol can soothe the skin irritated by preservatives, scent ingredients, and chemical sunscreens - it might have a meaning for lipids in our skin and skin barrier. It speeds up the healing process. It's good to use it after sunbathing. In hair care, Panthenol has moisturizing properties. If you have problems detangling your hair or hair growth, go for Panthenol. It is good to mix it with niacinamide and zinc oxide. You can see it in products for atopic dermatitis or psoriasis.

Poly C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate stabilizes the emulsion. Glyceryl Stearate is an emollient with emulsifying properties. Lauryl Lactate is an emulsifier. Octyldodecanol is an emollient and fatty alcohol. It's also a solvent. Behenyl Alcohol might sound scary, but it's a fatty alcohol. This type of alcohol benefits the skin, as it acts as an emollient, improving the product's texture. Carbomer is a synthetic thickener.

Cetearyl Alcohol is a fatty alcohol. In the beauty industry, it serves as an emollient. Many people associate alcohol with something awful for the epidermis, but not every alcohol is nasty. Cetearyl alcohol leaves a moisturizing film on the skin to prevent your skin from transepidermal water loss (TEWL). We use Cetearyl alcohol to create an emulsion. Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer is a polymer with thickening properties.

Hydrogenated Castor Oil/Sebacic Acid Copolymer is an emollient. Sodium Stearoyl Glutamate is an oil-in-water emulsifier. Inulin Lauryl Carbamate is an emulsifier. Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Crosspolymer is a synthetic polymer and quite a large molecule. It works as a thickener and emulsion stabiliser. Ethylhexylglycerin is a preservative with subtle moisturizing and antimicrobial properties.

Adenosine naturally occurs in the skin. One of the roles of adenosine in the body is that of a neurotransmitter. In skin care, we use adenosine for its anti-wrinkle properties. Adenosine is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It can boost collagen production. At the same time, it speeds up the healing process. Adenosine can have positive effects on reducing redness. In hair care, adenosine can help with hair loss.

Echium Plantagineum Seed Oil is an emollient that creates a delicate film on the surface of the skin. It can help minimise negative UV effects on the skin and hair. Polyacrylate Crosspolymer-6 is a thickener, it helps create elegant, non-sticky formulas. Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil Unsaponifiables is an emollient. It's rich in linoleic acid and tocopherol. It helps with dryness of the skin. Camellia Japonica Seed Extract is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties.

3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, or Ethyl Ascorbic Acid, is a form of Vitamin C. This form is very stable in both oil and water. It's an antioxidant and skin-brightening ingredient. It stimulates collagen (type I and III) and elastin production. 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid helps with PIE & PIH pigmentation - this form shows the best effects on pigmentation and post-UV-exposure skin discolouration. It's better to use Vitamin C during the morning routine because it boosts the efficiency of sunscreen. We consider 3-O-Ethyl Ascorbic Acid to be the most stable form of vitamin C in skincare, and this version is suitable for sensitive skin. It's good to mix it with niacinamide and vitamin E. This form has weak points - it's the most expensive form of vitamin C.

Tetracarboxymethyl Hexanoyl Dipeptide-12 is a synthetic peptide. It's supposed to reduce redness caused by UV and has anti-aging properties. Cardiospermum Halicacabum Flower/Leaf/Vine Extract is an anti-inflammatory ingredient. It soothes the skin. Cardiospermum halicacabum is known as balloon vine or balloon plant. Traditionally, it was used to treat rheumatism. It's a plant rich in catechins, flavonoids, and phytosterols.

Tocopherol is an antioxidant known as Vitamin E. It's an oil-soluble vitamin that fights free radicals and makes UVB protection and natural lipid barrier stronger. It's good to mix it with vitamin C for better effects. Oily skin might react with pore-clogging to vitamin E. It is not true that vitamin E works as a preservative or helps with scars. Squalane is an ingredient very similar to our sebum. Squalane and squalene sound identical, but there's a difference. Squalane has no double bonds, while squalene has double bonds. What does it mean? Squalane is a more stable version of squalene. What I love about this ingredient is how well it works with all skin types and how our skin needs it. Believe me, if your skin is irritated - go for squalane! This ingredient is usually derived from sugarcane or olives. It acts like an emollient, and you need it in your life.

Ascorbic Acid is an antioxidant that stimulates collagen (type I and III) and elastin production. It helps with pigmentation - both PIE & PIH. It is recommended to use vitamin C as part of your morning routine, as it enhances the effectiveness of sunscreen. Ascorbic Acid can fix what free radicals destroy. Brands recommend mixing ascorbic acid with ferulic acid and vitamin E. Vitamin C has a cardinal role in strengthening the blood vessels and boosting wound healing. Ascorbic Acid in a concentration above 10% might be too irritating for sensitive skin or rosacea - even some acne-prone skin might not enjoy it.

Bambusa Vulgaris Water or Bamboo Water is a soothing ingredient, ideal for sensitive skin. Butylene Glycol is a common ingredient in products. It's not only a solvent. We use butylene glycol because it helps the active ingredients penetrate, protects products from drying, and moisturises the skin and hair. This ingredient can prevent hair loss and strengthen hair. Sodium Hyaluronate, or sodium salt of hyaluronic acid. It's a form of hyaluronic acid and naturally occurs in the skin. Sodium Hyaluronate has strong water-binding properties. Sodium hyaluronate, combined with elastin and collagen, is like a scaffolding for the skin. It has hydrating properties and leaves a hydrating film on the skin, but sodium hyaluronate prevents skincare products from drying.

Phyllostachys Nigra (Black Bamboo) Leaf Extract is an antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. Hydrolyzed Hyaluronic Acid is a low-weight humectant. We have to remember that not every molecule can get through the skin surface, and lower molecular weight HA can penetrate the skin deeper and bring moisture inside the skin. It's a natural polymer that binds water in the skin to prevent TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Sodium Acetylated Hyaluronate is related to sodium hyaluronate. It boosts moisture in the skin and elasticity. It helps prevent skin from TEWL (transepidermal water loss).

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil

How does Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil work?

First of all, I’m surprised how late in the year Haruharu Wonder introduced Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil to the customers. I love to watch the market. I worked as a researcher for a beauty company, so following trends or even predicting them was something I did all the time. There are many things that are changing in the market, and you can see that brands want to follow the trends or even be quicker in them than others. I feel like this year in December, we might even try to guess the upcoming trends for 2026.

If it comes to sunscreens, usually the season for new releases starts in March and April - you can see many new sunscreens being released, but if we take a look at Japanese companies, they like to announce new products a bit earlier - I believe last year one company announced that in late February they were going to release a new sunscreen. Each year I tell myself that I need to test some new Japanese sunscreens for you, and each year I fail when I see the final prices of them because ordering stuff from Japan is more expensive than from Korea, and I’m still trying to find the best way to order legit cosmetics from other Asian countries than Korea.

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil

Back to Haruharu, the first post about Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil on Haruharu Wonder’s Instagram profile was from late September. We can probably agree that people nowadays use sunscreens all year long, but I’m a bit surprised by the choice of season.

Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil is definitely an interesting sunscreen - it’s for full body, and because of the temperature right now, I couldn’t test if it’s “goth summer approved” because even if some days are sunny, we get maybe 5 hours of sun, the temperature is low and in general, I’m more likely to spend entire day in a blanket than anything that shows half of my hand.

According to the brand, Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil is reef-safe, vegan-friendly, and cruelty-free. The sunscreen had SPF tests in separate labs in South Korea and Europe. It's actually a sunscreen that's suitable for sensitive skin, which I agree with because it didn't cause me any irritation.

I’m surprised by how beautiful the texture of Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil is. It’s lightweight, it leaves no white cast, it’s moist, but it doesn’t leave any greasy film on the skin. It does leave a glow on the skin. It should be good for combo skin, but I find it better for my dry hands - the way of moisture it gives might be better for dry skin.

How does Haruharu Wonder Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil compare to other Haruharu Wonder sunscreens?

I know that lots of people love Haruharu sunscreens. I was lucky that two years ago the brand sent me their new sunscreens to test them. I wouldn’t compare Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil to Black Rice Pure Mineral Relief Daily Sunscreen for one simple reason - one is a chemical sunscreen, the other is mineral. If you’re a fan of mineral sunscreens or you can’t use chemical sunscreens, then Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil won’t be a good substitute for Black Rice Pure Mineral Relief Daily Sunscreen.

Haruharu Wonder Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Sunscreen was very similar to Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil, but I feel like if Black Bamboo Top-to-Toe SPF Veil is too heavy for you, then Black Rice Moisture Airyfit Sunscreen might be better.
