ABOUT_TONE Blur Powder Pact
There are many keys to flawless makeup, and choosing the right powder is one of them. In this ABOUT_TONE Blur Powder Pact review, I’m testing the Korean pressed powder designed to blur the appearance of pores, control excess sebum, and set makeup without leaving a heavy, powdery layer. With seven shades to choose from, could this be the right blurring powder for your makeup routine

Disclosure: The products featured in this post were gifted by Stylevana, but all opinions expressed are my own.

What Is Makeup Powder and Do You Need It?

If you think that makeup is a simple thing, you would be surprised to learn that there are many different powders and their function depends. There are many types of makeup powders, each designed for a different purpose. Loose powder is great for setting makeup and is often called setting powder. Pressed powder is ideal for everyday use and touch-ups. Translucent powder is also commonly used to set makeup without adding noticeable color. Blurring powder helps control excess oil while making skin texture look smoother and more even. High-definition powders are especially useful for makeup that will be photographed or filmed. Mineral powder is often recommended for sensitive skin, while mattifying powder is a great choice for oily skin. There are also baking powders designed for the makeup baking technique and banana powders, which are commonly used to brighten and conceal.
The choice of powders is enormous, so finding the right one can sometimes feel overwhelming.

How to Make Makeup Last Longer?

A good base is the first step to long-lasting makeup, but a few extra products can help keep it looking fresh throughout the day. Start with a primer before applying your makeup, and you can also use a makeup prep product to create a smoother base. Finish with a setting powder and a setting spray to lock everything in place. The best powder for you depends on your skin's needs, so choose a formula that suits your skin type and desired finish.

ABOUT_TONE Blur Powder Pact - Packaging

ABOUT_TONE Blur Powder Pact comes in a paper box with a minimalist design. Similar to the primer, I really like this approach because it’s quite different from the packaging I usually see in makeup products. Despite its small size, the box contains more information than you might expect, including directions for use, cautions, and information stating that the product is vegan. Inside the box, there’s a tiny black circular compact that looks like a button, complete with the brand logo. The packaging is entirely black and opens and closes easily. The case itself is lightweight and contains a mirror and a makeup puff. The puff sits on a transparent plastic shelf that separates it from the pressed powder.

I’m testing shade 03 Natural, and as someone with very pale skin, I wouldn’t personally choose this shade because it feels quite warm on my skin.
I noticed that previously ABOUT_TONE had shade 04 TAN, but it’s no longer sold.

Talc is a naturally occurring mineral commonly used in makeup and cosmetic products. It can absorb excess sebum and help reduce shine while also improving the texture and spreadability of a formula, making application smoother. Silica is a mineral-derived ingredient widely used in both makeup and skincare. It can absorb excess sebum, helping to reduce shine and create a more matte finish. It can also be used as a thickening or texture-modifying agent in cosmetic formulations. Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer is a synthetic polymer commonly used as a texture-enhancing and film-forming ingredient in cosmetic formulations. It helps absorb excess sebum, creating a soft, matte finish on the skin. It also improves the sensory feel of products, giving them a smoother, more elegant texture. Thanks to its light-diffusing properties, Methyl Methacrylate Crosspolymer helps blur the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and pores, creating a soft-focus effect. Mica is a naturally occurring mineral that is widely used in cosmetics as a pigment and light-reflecting ingredient. It creates a luminous, shimmery effect by reflecting and scattering light, which can help products provide a glowing finish and visually smooth the appearance of the skin. There has been some controversy around mica sourcing because mining practices in certain regions have been associated with poor working conditions and child labor concerns. Many cosmetic companies now focus on responsibly sourced mica or synthetic alternatives to improve supply chain transparency. Dimethicone is a silicone-based polymer that helps smooth and soften the skin while creating a protective barrier that reduces moisture loss. Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride is derived from coconut oil and glycerin. It is a common emollient used in skincare products that helps soften and smooth the skin while reducing moisture loss by forming a protective layer on the skin's surface. It also improves the texture of skincare products, making them easier to apply. Some people may find that products containing Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride contribute to clogged pores, but reactions to individual ingredients can vary from person to person. What works well for you might not work for someone else. Nylon-12 is a synthetic polymer commonly used as a texture-enhancing ingredient in cosmetic formulations. It helps absorb excess sebum, leaving the skin with a smooth, soft, and silky finish. It also improves the sensory feel and spreadability of products while creating a soft-focus effect that helps blur the appearance of pores and fine lines. Diisostearyl Malate is an oil-soluble emollient commonly used in cosmetic formulations, especially in lip products and makeup. It helps soften and smooth the skin while improving the texture and spreadability of the formula. It creates a comfortable, glossy finish and helps prevent moisture loss by forming a lightweight protective layer on the skin. Triethylhexanoin is an ester derived from glycerin and fatty acids. It works as an emollient, helping soften and smooth the skin while providing a lightweight, silky texture to cosmetic formulations. Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891) is a mineral UV filter and pigment widely used in sunscreens and cosmetics. As a UV filter, it primarily protects the skin from UVB and UVA II radiation, with more limited protection in the UVA I range. Its white color can leave a visible white cast on the skin, although nano-sized Titanium Dioxide particles generally produce much less visible whitening. Titanium Dioxide also functions as a white pigment and opacifying agent, which is why it is widely used in makeup and skincare products. For people prone to melasma and hyperpigmentation, protection from visible light can also be important. However, this benefit is mainly associated with tinted sunscreens containing pigments such as iron oxides rather than the white cast created by Titanium Dioxide itself. Iron Oxide Yellow are mineral pigments responsible for the yellow colour in cosmetic formulations. They are commonly used in makeup products such as foundations, concealers, eyeshadows, and lip products to create and adjust shades. CI 77492 is typically a matte yellow pigment and is often combined with other iron oxides (red and black) to create natural-looking skin tones and a wide range of cosmetic colours. Dimethiconol Stearate is a silicone-based emollient used in cosmetic formulations to improve the texture and sensory feel of products. It helps soften and smooth the skin while creating a lightweight protective film that can support moisture retention. It also contributes to a silky, elegant finish and improves the spreadability of formulations. Synthetic Beeswax is a lab-created, vegan-friendly alternative to natural beeswax. It acts as an emollient and texture-enhancing ingredient, helping to soften and smooth the skin while forming a protective layer that reduces moisture loss. It also improves the consistency, stability, and application of cosmetic formulations. Glyceryl Caprylate/Caprate is an emollient derived from glycerin and fatty acids. It helps soften and smooth the skin while improving the texture and spreadability of cosmetic formulations. It can also support the skin barrier by helping reduce moisture loss. Ethylhexylglycerin is a multifunctional ingredient used as a preservative and preservative booster in cosmetic formulations. It has mild moisturizing and antimicrobial properties, helping to keep products stable while supporting the effectiveness of other preservatives. Allantoin is a naturally occurring compound found in the human body, as well as in plants such as comfrey. Although it can be extracted from natural sources, the allantoin used in skincare is typically produced synthetically to ensure consistent quality and purity. It acts as a humectant, helping the skin retain moisture while also providing soothing and skin-protecting benefits. Allantoin is well known for supporting the skin's natural healing process, making it a popular ingredient in products formulated for dry, sensitive, or irritated skin. Iron Oxides Red are mineral pigments responsible for red colour in cosmetic formulations. They are commonly used in makeup products such as foundations, concealers, blushes, eyeshadows, and lip products to create and adjust shades. CI 77491 is typically a matte red pigment and is often combined with other iron oxides (yellow and black) to create natural-looking skin tones and a wide range of cosmetic colours.
ABOUT_TONE Blur Powder Pact
Propanediol, also known as a natural glycol, is a humectant and solvent commonly used as an alternative to propylene glycol. It helps dissolve ingredients, improves the texture and spreadability of formulations, and provides additional moisturizing benefits by attracting water to the skin. It can also enhance the delivery and performance of certain active ingredients. Pentylene Glycol is a multifunctional ingredient commonly used as a solvent and stabilizer in skincare formulations. It also has moisturizing properties, helping the skin retain water and improving the overall feel and performance of products. Methicone is a silicone polymer that acts as a dry emollient and film-forming ingredient. It creates a lightweight, breathable film on the skin, helping to improve the spreadability and durability of cosmetic products. In makeup formulations, it enhances wear time and contributes to a smooth, silky finish. In haircare products, Methicone has antistatic properties that help reduce flyaways and improve hair manageability.
Tocopheryl Acetate is a stable ester form of Vitamin E (Tocopherol). It works as an antioxidant, helping protect the skin from oxidative stress, while also supporting skin hydration and reducing transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Compared with pure Tocopherol, this form is more stable in cosmetic formulations, although it needs to be converted into Tocopherol to become active in the skin. Some people consider Vitamin E a preservative, but it should not be used as one. Instead, it helps protect oils in a formula from oxidation and is often used alongside other antioxidants, such as Vitamin C and Ferulic Acid, to create a more effective antioxidant system. Pinus Sylvestris (Pine) Leaf Extract is a plant extract rich in flavonoids and volatile compounds such as α-pinene and limonene. It has antioxidant and antibacterial properties, making it a popular ingredient in products designed for oily and blemish-prone skin. It may also help soothe the skin and protect it from oxidative stress. Iron Oxides Black is a black mineral pigment used in cosmetic formulations to create and adjust colours. It is commonly found in makeup products such as foundations, concealers, eyeshadows, and lip products. Although it is a black pigment, it is not only used to create black shades. In complexion products, it is often combined with other pigments to achieve different skin tones and create more natural-looking colours. Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract is a plant extract derived from coconut that acts as a skin-conditioning and emollient ingredient. It contains fatty acids, vitamins, and other bioactive compounds that can help soften and smooth the skin. In skincare and haircare products, coconut extract may support hydration by helping maintain moisture levels and improving the overall condition and appearance of the skin and hair. Amethyst Powder is a mineral powder derived from amethyst crystals. In cosmetic formulations, it can be used as a gentle abrasive ingredient to provide exfoliating properties. It is also used in powder-based products as a texture-enhancing ingredient, helping improve the feel and performance of the formula. In makeup powders, mineral particles like amethyst powder can help improve product adherence and resistance to external factors, such as wind, by supporting a more stable application on the skin. Water is typically listed in cosmetic products as "Aqua" or "Eau". It acts as a solvent, but it is not the same as ordinary drinking water. In skincare products, water must meet strict purity standards to ensure it is free from impurities, including minerals, microorganisms, and other contaminants. In most formulations, water makes up the largest proportion of the product. Butylene Glycol is a multifunctional ingredient commonly used in skincare and haircare products. It acts as a solvent and humectant, helping to dissolve ingredients while attracting moisture to the skin and hair. It can also enhance the penetration of active ingredients, improve a product's texture, and prevent formulations from drying out. 1,2-Hexanediol is a synthetic solvent and preservative booster. It helps protect products from microorganisms by enhancing the effectiveness of other preservatives. It also has humectant properties, helping to keep the skin hydrated, and is generally well tolerated by the skin. Hydrogenated Lecithin is a version of lecithin. It works as an emollient in the formulas. Citrus Junos (Yuzu) Fruit Extract is a plant extract derived from yuzu, a citrus fruit known as yuja in South Korea, yuzu in Japan, and youzi in China. It is a source of various beneficial compounds, including vitamin C, flavonoids such as hesperidin, and other antioxidant substances. Yuzu has a special place in Japanese culture, where yuzu baths (yuzuyu) are traditionally enjoyed during the winter solstice. This practice is believed to promote relaxation and help support overall well-being. In skincare, Citrus Junos (Yuzu) Fruit Extract works mainly as an antioxidant, helping protect the skin from oxidative stress. It may support brighter-looking skin and can be beneficial in formulations targeting signs of aging and blemish-prone skin due to its soothing and antioxidant properties. Citrus Limon (Lemon) Fruit Extract is a plant extract that contains vitamin C, citric acid, and other antioxidant compounds. It may help support skin brightening by improving the appearance of uneven skin tone and dullness. Due to its antioxidant properties, it can also help protect the skin from oxidative stress. However, lemon extract can be potentially irritating for sensitive skin, especially when combined with other exfoliating or active ingredients.

How does ABOUT_TONE Blur Powder Pact work?

This powder was definitely a big surprise for me. Although Stylevana sent me shade 03 Natural, which isn’t a match for my skin tone, I still decided to give it a try because there aren’t many powders I actually enjoy using. For me, makeup powders usually feel heavy and can make my skin break out, but that’s not the case with ABOUT_TONE. This product blurs the skin without leaving a thick, powdery layer behind. I usually complain about powders feeling heavy, as if I’ve put a layer of plaster on my face and need a chisel to remove it. That doesn’t happen with ABOUT_TONE Blur Powder Pact. It does feel slightly more matte to the touch when I run my fingers over the areas where I applied the powder, but it’s not uncomfortable. I don’t feel like I have a thick layer of powder sitting on my skin. The powder has also been slightly redesigned. ABOUT_TONE expanded the shade range and introduced a new puff. The original flocked puff has been replaced with a micro-velvet puff that is optimized for use with powder to help minimize clumping and buildup. If you’ve read my review of the ABOUT_TONE Blur Lasting Stick Primer, you might know that the brand recommends using the Blur Lasting Stick Primer together with the Blur Powder Pact for a more noticeable blurring effect. It’s an affordable duo that could be a good solution for long-lasting makeup, especially for oily and combination skin.
