#letniczas - Suncare & Sunscreens

Read in English       Przeczytaj po polsku

This month I've teamed up with a group of bloggers to show you how do we prepare for the summer. The first post from this series is going to be all about suncare, I wasn't sure if I want to make very "scientific" post or a post based on my own experience but I still hope that you'll find some useful information here. Let me show you my point of view on sunscreens.

Why is suncare so important?
The truth is that the sun has a positive and negative impact on us. It's a source of vitamin D but there's also a bad side called melanoma. I'm sure that you all know the symbol yin and yang - I was taught at university that there's a part of yang in yin and there's a part of yin in yang. Nothing can be good or bad in 100%, that's why the sun has positive meanings to out lives it also has the negative meanings too. The suncare helps us to reduce the negative impact of the sun, it's a way to prevent a skin cancer and a way to get that healthy summer glow instead of a sunburn.

How to protect our skin from the sun?
There are many ways to protect our skin from the sun, the most popular way is to wear appropriate clothes and fabrics. Sunglasses are also a way of suncare but it doesn't only protect the skin under eyes but eyes too. Another way of suncare is to use a sunscreen. We've got a choice here - mineral sunscreens, hybrid sunscreens (mix of mineral & chemical sunscreen) and chemical sunscreens. I know that some people are going to say that natural oils can be used as a protection like raspberry seed oil but the truth is that natural oils are not as stable as mineral, hybrid or chemical sunscreens. Both hybrid and chemical sunscreens are not good for everyone - some people can get a rash after using them. The choice is yours - every skin is different and it can react differently to the same product.

How to I deal with sunburns?
Year ago I've made a big topic about suncare & sunburns. I do not want to say the same information as a year ago but if you plan to sunbathe remember to take a bottle of water, a hat and panthenol or aloe gel with you. Some sunburns have to be treated by doctors but the delicate ones you can treat on your own. I always try to use the ingredients which I already know, to treat sunburns use ingredients such as panthenol and allantoin - both of these ingredients are used in medicine by specialists too.

How do I deal with sun allergy?
This part of the post is a personal one. I know that many people don't even know that sun allergy can exist. The reaction to the sun might be stronger if you use histamine or other medical treatments - especially medicines used to treat depression or heart diseases. If you've got acne or pigmentation/dark spots you probably saw that some of the products like AHA/BHA or Vitamin C ampules contain warnings "use a sunscreen". Some beauty products are sun-sensitizing, it means that after using them your skin might react quicker to the sun rays than before. I'm not a doctor so I won't tell you how to deal with sun allergy but I can share with you what I do to make the allergy weaker. I always try to wear some kimono or a very light cardigan to hide my arms, I use mineral sunscreens as well even if there's a little problem too - the sunscreen shouldn't have any allergen like perfume - I'm trying to go outside with a bottle of water and medicines near me. If the reaction is really bad - I feel like I'm going to vomit then I'm going to the colder place in my house - the bathroom and I'm literally laying in the dark room with no source of light. I always feel better after laying there for 30-60 minutes.

The rules of suncare
Sunbaths aren't bad as long as we remember some rules of healthy sunbaths. I hope that these tips are going to help you. There's also a rule number 0 - if you plan to sunbathe this summer then try to use beta-carotene couple weeks before. It'll give you a nice glow and suntan.

1. Use a sunscreen - every skin is different. If your skin is very pale then use a sunscreen with SPF 50+, if your skin is really dark then SPF15 or lower will be suitable for you.
2. Remember to reapply the sunscreen ever 2-3 hours and after water activities.
3. Don't spend too much time in the sun.
4. Drink some water during the sunbaths.
5. Don't drink alcohol during the sunbath.
6. Care for your safety and the safety of the people around you.
7. Use a hat and sunglasses as a protection.

My suncare favourites
I would love to recommend you my favourite sunscreens but the truth is that I don't have a favourite sunscreen. I'm still searching to find a nice product, that's why I want to share with you some of the sunscreens I've found with really good ingredients.

Innisfree Blueberry Rebalancing Watery Sun Cream SPF37/PA+++
If you don't need a sunscreen with SPF around 50 then Innisfree has a nice option for you - Blueberry Water Sun Cream with SPF37. It contains Titanium Dioxide and natural oils such as jojoba oil.

Innisfree Fig Brightening Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++
If you want a product with lots of natural ingredients such as fig fruit extract or Centella Asiatica extract then this sunscreen was made for you. It's a mineral sunscreen.

Innisfree Oat Mild Moisture Sun Cream SPF50+/PA+++
This product is a good option if you have an allergy. I can't say a bad thing about the ingredients - it contains lots of natural extracts and vitamin E. It's a mineral sunscreen.

Innisfree Truecare Non-nano Sunscreen SPF48/PA+++
There's a big discussion if nano sunscreens are good for our health or not. I must admit that this option from Innisfree is really interesting, this product has very mild ingredients and you won't find here any allergens. This option is mineral as well.

Make P: Rem UV Defense Me Blue Ray Sun Cream SPF50+/PA++++
This mineral sunscreen is a good option for oily and combination skin types. It contains Centella Asiatica and Sage Oil.

Make P: Rem UV Defense Me Blue Ray Sun Fluid SPF50+/PA++++
Another option from Make P: Rem, both Sun Cream and Sun Fluid from this series are really similar.

Pozdrawiam!

  5. It really is especially when you are traveling in sunnier places. I defiantly think a hat is number one and a great sunscreen :)

  11. Alergia na słońce to jest masakra :(

  19. I needed t read this post! I have to admit that I keep forgetting about sunscreen. I know it's so bad for my skin.

  30. I really agree that suncare is so important for us especially during this hot weather. Recently I use Innisfree's sun cream nd it works like magic for me, I love it so much! Nice post and tips dear :)

    ReplyDelete
